Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Hi.  The firm I used to work for before I retired gave me an HP OfficeJet 9020 printer which they said I could keep.  They disabled wireless printing which I'd like to re-enable now that it's mine to keep.  The printer doesn't display the IP address and when the printer is connected to my laptop by USB cable, I can't get into the Network setting without a password.  I tried using the PIN that is written on the drop-down panel of the printer, but that's not the password.  Is there a way to restore the printer to its original settings by using just the serial number or MAC address?

Hi @Longislander,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear that to unlock your HP OfficeJet 9020 and restore the wireless settings, you cannot use the serial number or MAC address directly. Instead, you need to perform a Factory Reset directly from the printer's touchscreen.

Step 1: Perform a Factory Reset:

Because the previous administrator changed the settings, a standard network reset may not work. You must do a full printer reset.

  1. On the printer’s control panel (the screen), tap the Settings gear icon.

  2. Navigate to General > Reset Factory Settings.

  3. Select Reset to confirm.

  4. The printer will wipe the customised settings, remove the password, and restart automatically (this may take a few minutes).

Step 2: Re-enable Wireless Connection:

Once the printer has rebooted, it will be in the default out-of-box state, and wireless capability will be re-enabled.

  1. On the printer's home screen, tap the Wireless icon (or go to Setup > Network Setup).

  2. Select Restore Network Settings or Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode.

  3. The wireless light will blink blue, indicating the printer is discoverable.

  4. Within two hours, download and open the HP Smart app (available for HP Smart for Windows/Mac) on your laptop.

  5. Select Add Printer in the app and follow the on-screen prompts to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

I hope this will help.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
