HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g
Microsoft Windows 11

Recently changed wireless provider from Frontier to Spectrum.  Unable to reconnect my laptop to my printer wirelessly.  The setup does not accept the ip address that the printer is successfuly connected to giving me an error saying the the ip address is temporary (169.254.126.85) and that I should do several things, i.e, disconnect the router, which I've done and the laptop and the printer with no effect.  This ip address is still constant after two weeks.  Any suggestions?

Hi @RST931,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

When changing wireless providers and setting up your printer, you might encounter issues due to incorrect or temporary IP addresses such as 169.254.126.85. This IP range indicates that the printer is not properly connected to your network. Here’s how you can resolve this issue:

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cable from the printer and router.
  • Turn off the laptop and disconnect it from the network.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds before reconnecting the modem and then the router.

Ensure DHCP is Enabled:

  • Access your router’s settings to ensure DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is enabled. This will automatically assign the correct IP address to your devices on the network.

Reconnect Your Printer to the Network:

  • Access the Printer Control Panel:
    • Navigate to the "Wireless Settings" on the printer’s control panel.
    • Use the Wireless Setup Wizard to connect the printer to the Spectrum network.
  • Manually Enter Network Details:
    • If the setup wizard fails, manually type the network name (SSID) and password in the printer settings.

Assigning a Static IP Address:

  • If the printer continues to receive a temporary IP, you can assign a static IP:
    • On the printer’s display menu, choose "Setup" > "Network Setup" > "IP Settings."
    • Choose "Manual" and enter an IP address within the valid range of your network settings (not within 169.254.x.x).

Check Your Laptop’s Connection:

  • Ensure your laptop is connected to the same wireless network as your printer.
  • Run network diagnostics to verify connection settings and troubleshoot any network issues.

Update Printer's Firmware and Drivers:

Network Configuration Report:

  • Print a network configuration page from your printer to review current network settings. This can help verify if it’s connected properly.

I hope this helps.
