Changed my xfinity router and now printer will not connect through WIFI. I ran through the steps to set up as wireless but the connection fails and I get the test report which says there are multiple networks with the same name. I kept the same network name with the new router so I feel this is a configuration issue somewhere. I did reset the printer setting back to factory setting but that didn't work either. Any thing else I can try?

Hi @JoeyB9,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Officejet Pro 8600 is struggling to connect due to multiple networks with the same SSID. Here are some steps to resolve this.
Forget Old Network on the Printer
Since you kept the same WiFi name (SSID), the printer might be trying to connect to an old network configuration.
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup > Network > Restore Network Defaults
- Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.
Reconnect Printer to WiFi
- On the printer, go to Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard
- Select your WiFi network and enter the password carefully.
Check Your Router Settings
Since your new Xfinity router has the same SSID, there might be interference:
- Log in to your router (usually via 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1 in a web browser).
- Check if both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands have the same network name (SSID). If so:
- Try renaming the 5GHz band (e.g., “YourWiFi-5G”).
- The HP 8600 supports only 2.4GHz, so separating the bands helps.
Assign a Static IP to the Printer
- Find the printer’s MAC address from the Wireless Network Test Report.
- In the router’s DHCP settings, reserve an IP for the printer.
- Try manually setting the printer’s IP under Network Settings > Advanced Settings.
Update Printer Firmware
- Download the latest firmware from HP’s website (HP Support) and install it via USB.
Power Cycle Everything
- Turn off the printer, router, and computer.
- Wait 2 minutes, then turn on the router first, followed by the printer and computer.
After doing this, try printing a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s settings and confirm it shows "Connected."
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
