HP LaserJet M209dwe Printer
Normally, I download the software with another computer and install it on the second computer. I've done this for ages. I do NOT want to print via the internet. I do NOT want to order ink automatically. 'Requires internet connection'? I thought that was just for set-up. It turns out that in order to print, you have to have wifi. It's not an option.
What happens if your internet goes down? An office depot rep told me to use up my hot spot allowance on my phone. Unacceptable. I should be able to print via the usb cord if I want to.
So, now I own a paperweight. I can't use a printer that requires me to be online. It's just plain stupid. And I'm not the first one to complain.
So, what do I do now? Give it to Goodwill? Throw it in the landfill? (Thanks for helping us 'save the planet', right?) Try to sell it? Or, you all could do the right thing and make this printer operate with basic software. I know it can, because it printed out the configuration page without the internet just using the buttons on the machine.
MAKE IT RIGHT! Or at least recommend a printer I can purchase that requires no internet connection other than to download the software/drivers.
It would be pretty sad if all the brands now require the internet just to print. That's what the aforementioned rep told me the companies were doing. There's no need for this. WiFi as an option? Great. But a requirement????
Technology exists to assist the users. This mandatory wifi requirement is a step backwards.
Very sad.
Oh, and I just spent 40 minutes on the phone with HP. 'Sam' was the rep. I was very careful to say that he was not the one at fault, but I needed a solution to get this machine to print. He threw me on hold without telling me I would be put on hold, and never came back. So, I guess you all don't want to hear it.

Hi @Mordento
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd like to help!
To be able to answer you effectively, we need some information.
Are you enrolled in the instant ink? If yes you need an active internet connection to print. Even the hotspot may not help.
However, if you are not enrolled in the instant ink program, you should be able to print if your printer has the capability of wireless.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
