HP M15W
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

I recently changed my wifi settings and when trying to connect my printer to the new router I am prompted for a password.

It is NOT the WiFi Direct Set up password nor "password" nor "admin"

I would like to reset this ASAP.

@CabPrintGuy

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Could you share the screen where it's asking for the password?

Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for posting back.

I recommend you perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Restoring the factory-set defaults returns most of the settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count, tray size, or language. To restore the product to the factory default settings, follow these steps.

  1. Turn the product off. Disconnect the power cable from the product for 30 seconds and then reconnect.

  2. Turn the product on while you press and hold the Resume/Cancel () button for 10-20 seconds. The Attention () light turns on.

  3. Release the Resume/Cancel () button. The Attention () and Power button/Ready lights (
) cycle while the product restores factory defaults.

And, also refer to the article: Using the Printer Embedded Web Server (EWS) By end the article you will be able to fix the issue.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I have followed the instructions but I still get prompted to enter a password when using EWS.
I do not remember setting a password for this. How can I reset it?

I followed your instructions and was still prompted to enter credentials when trying to set up the printer to a WiFi Network via EWS.

I do not recall setting a unique EWS password but "admin" does not work.

Any way I can reset this password to use EWS?

Complete the network connection by putting the printer and the router in WPS setup mode. Once connected, install the HP software to wirelessly connect the printer to your computer or mobile device.

  1. Make sure your router has a WPS button or a button with the WPS icon .

    • If the router has a WPS button, do not press the button yet. Continue to the next step.

    • If the router does not have a WPS button, skip to the frequently asked questions in this document for options.

  2. Place the printer within range of the Wi-Fi router signal.

  3. Put the printer in WPS connection mode.

    • Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu, select Wi-Fi Protected Setup, select Push Button, and then select Start.

    • Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless  button for five seconds until the wireless light flashes. For Tango printers, press and hold the Wireless button and the Power button on the rear of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes.

  4. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router for three to five seconds, or until the connection process begins.

  5. Return to the printer and check the status of the wireless light or bar.

    • If the light or blue bar stops flashing, the printer successfully connected to the network. Continue to the next step.

    • If the light is still flashing or turned off, the connection failed. Move the printer closer to the router, and then repeat these steps. If the connection still fails, continue to the frequently asked questions in this document.

  6. Make sure your computer or mobile device is on the same local wireless network you connected the printer to.

  7. Go to 123.hp.com and follow the instructions to install the software and set up the wireless connection. For Chromebooks, go to Printing from a Chromebook.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
