Hi @FWatson,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP LaserJet is showing that access to the wireless settings is locked, it may have been set up with an admin password or restricted access during its initial configuration. Here’s how you can resolve it.
Try Default Admin Credentials
- Open a web browser on a device connected to the same network as the printer.
- Enter the printer's IP address in the address bar. You can find the IP address on the printer's display or by printing a network configuration page.
- Use the following default credentials to log in:
- Username: admin
- Password: (blank) or admin
Reset Printer Settings
Perform a Network Settings Reset:
- Locate the Settings, Setup, or Network menu on the printer.
- Select Restore Network Defaults. This will reset all network configurations, including wireless settings.
- Reconnect the printer to the new WiFi network using the HP Smart app or directly on the printer's display.
Perform a Full Printer Reset (if network reset doesn’t work):
- Check your printer manual for specific steps to reset to factory defaults. Often, this involves navigating to Setup > Service > Restore Defaults on the printer.
- This will erase all custom settings, including passwords and wireless configurations.
Hard Reset with a PIN
If settings are locked due to admin password protection:
- Press and hold the Cancel button (or a combination like Power + Wireless) for about 10 seconds.
- Wait for the printer to restart or show a prompt to restore factory settings.
- Reconfigure the printer.

Access HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- From a device already on the same network, open a browser and access the printer's IP address.
- Look for Reset Settings or Admin Password Recovery under the security settings.
- If prompted for a PIN, this is often printed on a sticker inside the printer (usually near the toner compartment or on the back).
After Reset
Once the wireless settings are reset:
- Use the HP Smart App or your computer to reconnect the printer to your new WiFi network.
- If an admin password is required, you can set a new one during the setup process.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
