I have an old CP1525NW printer. Over several years. I have changed my WiFi router. Other than when I first bought the printer (new), I have not been able to connect the printer wireless to my router. I had given up making the connection and instead hard wired the printer to the router. I currently am using a Netgear AX1800 router. I thought I might again try the WiFi connection. No go.
I am wondering that given the difference in age (older printer and newer router) that the technology is not compatible? Is perhaps Windows 11 somehow blocking the connection?
Any thoughts I how can connect the printer to the router or is it a lost hope?

Hi @sppchicago,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Setting up your HP CP1525nw for wireless printing can be a bit tricky, especially with an older printer and a newer router. Here are steps to help you connect your printer to your Netgear AX1800 router:
1. Check Compatibility
- The HP CP1525nw should generally work with most modern routers, but ensure your router is using a compatible wireless mode (preferably 2.4 GHz). Some older printers may not support 5 GHz networks.
2. Reset Network Settings on Printer
- Factory Reset:
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons simultaneously.
- While holding them, turn the printer back on. This should reset the network settings to factory defaults.
3. Connect to Wi-Fi Network
- Using the Control Panel:
- Turn on the printer and ensure it’s in a ready state.
- Press the Wi-Fi button on the printer to enable Wi-Fi.
- On the control panel, navigate to Network Setup and then Wireless Setup Wizard.
- Follow the prompts to select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
4. Install HP Software
- Download and install the latest HP software and drivers from the HP support website:
- Make sure to select the correct operating system (Windows 11).
- During installation, choose the wireless option when prompted.
5. Update Router Settings
- Log into your Netgear router’s admin panel (usually through a web browser at 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
- Ensure that:
- The SSID (network name) is broadcasting.
- The Wi-Fi password is correctly set and matches what you’re entering on the printer.
- Any MAC filtering settings are either disabled or include your printer’s MAC address.
6. Temporarily Disable Firewall/Security Software
- On your Windows 11 PC, temporarily disable any firewall or security software to see if it’s blocking the connection. Just remember to enable it again after testing.
7. Use WPS (If Available)
- If your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you can try connecting the printer using WPS:
- Press the WPS button on your router.
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi button on the printer for about 5 seconds, or until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking.
- The printer should automatically connect to the network.
8. Check Printer Status
- After attempting to connect, print a network configuration page from the printer’s control panel to verify the connection and check the assigned IP address.
9. Restart Devices
- Restart your printer, router, and computer after making changes to ensure they recognize the new settings.Setting up your HP CP1525nw for wireless printing can be a bit tricky, especially with an older printer and a newer router. I hope this helps.
