OfficeJet 4652

Since last week (09-05-2021) our OfficeJet 4652 printer has been printing very very slow, like 1 line at a time and can take 10 to 15 mins to print a page.
We have now tried to print from 5 different devices and they are all acting the same, but before last week it was printing fine and quickly.
I have checked for the lastest Drivers and Firmware and all are up to date.
Have tried all of the normal troubleshooting, power on/off, reboot devices, re-connect to router, and have even un-installed and re-installed the printer on one device with no change.
Any one have any ideas?

Hi,

Regardless of the last information, on a general base on the technical problem, I would also suggest ensuring the paper settings.

Open and close the paper tray and evaluate the shown prompt, ensure the correct Paper Type is set as Plain Paper, if any other value is listed for the Paper Type click No or Edit and change the Paper Type, also make sure the correct Paper Size is set, but the type would likely cause a slowness when incorrectly set.

Also, check for a faulty ink cartridge, remove the black cartridge and lower-down its top latch, then close the door and confirm and try printing using the single cartridge.

Next, install the cartridge back and remove the other one, then try copying or printing, to deny any option that any faulty ink cartridge may cause a such, may you see any change once removing any specific ink cartridge from the printer?

UPDATE - Have also tried from a MAC and the printer does the same thing, so this would rule out a Windows Update.

@CLManuel, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

I understand the printer is printing slow. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.

  • If the issue persists while printing from different devices, it means it is an issue with the printer.
  • Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your PC.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - Slow printing

If the issue persists, let us perform a factory reset.

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.
  • In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP community profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/notes/privatenotespage

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Yes, the Copy function is doing the same thing.
I will proceed with your other suggestions.

Sure. Perform a factory reset, re-setup the printer, and try printing or make a copy to check the result.

Let me know how it goes.

After having to download some new software and getting it all set back up, it is still printing/copying just as slow if not slower.
After the reset, it took 6 mins before the Alignment Page started printing and then took 7-8 mins to print that page.

I am not sure where to go next.

In this case, it seems like an issue with the printer itself. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options for your printer.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

After purchasing the out-of-warranty support, I have been unable to get anyone on the phone.
I have called numerous times and after being on hold for greater than a total of 6 hours saying all representatives are busy, it periodically disconnects me.
I guess I will try calling again and sit on hold...
