I can't connect Dell PC to a HP smart tank 6001 following a move. It was working fine before.  An HP Tech said I had to connect my PC with an ethernet cable.  I did that. Still no luck.

Hi @DR102,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If your Dell PC was previously able to connect to your HP Smart Tank 6001 printer and is no longer able to do so after a move, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Steps to Reconnect Your Dell PC to the HP Smart Tank 6001

Check the Physical Connections

  • Ethernet Cable Connection: Ensure the Ethernet cable is properly connected to both your PC and the router (if that is how you are connecting the PC to the network). The printer should also be connected to the same network, either via Ethernet or Wi-Fi.
  • Printer Status: Make sure the printer is powered on, has no error messages on its display, and is ready for use.

Verify Network Settings

  • Check Your PC's Network Connection:
    • Open the Network and Sharing Center on your Dell PC (accessible from the Control Panel).
    • Confirm that your PC is connected to the correct network. If using Ethernet, make sure the network status shows as "Connected."
  • Check Printer’s Network Status:
    • On the HP Smart Tank 6001, print a Network Configuration Report:
      • Tap the Wireless button or go to the Settings menu and select Network Configuration to print the report.
    • Ensure that the printer is connected to the same network as your PC.

Reinstall Printer Drivers and Software

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model (HP Smart Tank 6001).
  • Download the latest printer drivers and software compatible with your Dell PC's operating system.
  • Uninstall any existing HP printer software from your PC:
    • On Windows: Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features, find HP printer software, and click Uninstall.
  • Install the newly downloaded drivers and follow the on-screen instructions to set up the printer again.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @DR102,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Add the Printer Manually

  • On Windows:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
    • Click on Add a printer or scanner.
    • Wait for your HP Smart Tank 6001 to appear in the list, and then select it. If it does not appear, click on The printer that I want isn’t listed and follow the wizard to add the printer manually using its IP address (found on the Network Configuration Report).

Check Firewall and Security Settings

  • Ensure that your PC’s firewall or any third-party security software isn’t blocking the printer’s connection. You may need to temporarily disable the firewall or security software to see if it resolves the issue.

Power Cycle All Devices

  • Turn off the printer, PC, and router.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds and then turn on the router.
  • Wait for the router to fully start, then turn on the printer and your PC.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor Tool

Additional Tips

  • Wi-Fi Direct: If your network connection isn’t working, try using Wi-Fi Direct to connect the PC directly to the printer.
  • Network Reset: If the issue persists, consider resetting the network settings on the printer and reconnecting it to the network.

If you continue to face problems, either this printer needs to be checked or the PC.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
