I bought HP Smart Tank 7305 in March 2023. Connected to BT Fibre 1 broadband. Installed Vodafone Full Fibre Broadband about six weeks ago and have tried everything to connect to the broadband. Have paid HP support twice @ £22. They ran easy install and tried everything and gave up. Have contacted Vodafone. They said if I can connect Ring and Tapo devices, it must be a fault with the printer. The printer won’t find the split 5.0GHz to 2.4GHz. Have factory reset. Have turned everything off many times. I had a thermostat and the manufacturer’s said despite their unit saying it should connect it didn’t have the correct components inside so they replaced free of charge. Have gone back to retailer, Amazon, to request assistance. No luck so far. Have had the printer for just over the two years in March 2025. Haven’t used even half of the “3 years worth of ink”. Should I give up and throw it away? Is there a known problem with this 2+ year old Smart Tank 7305? At £280, I made and investment. Is there anything else to try?

Hi @blackcatattach,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for the detailed background—you're doing everything right, and I understand how frustrating this must be, especially after investing in the HP Smart Tank 7305 and support services.
Here’s a breakdown of what’s likely happening and what else you can try:
Root Cause: 2.4GHz Wi-Fi Compatibility Issue
The HP Smart Tank 7305 supports 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, but many smart devices, including some HP printers, struggle to detect split-band networks (where 2.4GHz and 5GHz share the same SSID name). This is especially common with newer routers like Vodafone Full Fibre’s.
Steps to Fix the Wi-Fi Connection Issue
1. Separate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Bands
- Log in to your Vodafone router settings (usually at 192.168.1.1).
- Go to Wi-Fi Settings > Advanced Settings.
- Rename the 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks to different SSIDs (e.g., Vodafone_2G and Vodafone_5G).
- Save and reboot the router.
This allows the printer to identify and connect to the 2.4GHz band.
2. Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode on the Printer
- On the printer control panel, press and hold the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons together for 5 seconds.
- The Wi-Fi light will blink blue, indicating that setup mode is active.

3. Use the HP Smart App to Reconnect
- Download or open the HP Smart - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store on your phone or PC.
- Add a new printer and connect it to the 2.4GHz network (Vodafone_2G).
- Complete the setup.
4. Still Not Connecting? Try Wi-Fi Direct
- On the printer, enable Wi-Fi Direct.
- Connect your phone or PC to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network (e.g., DIRECT-HP-7305).
- Use the HP Smart App to print without needing your home Wi-Fi.
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi. I tried all of the steps before over and over but the printer is unable to find the network. I have returned the printer to Amazon and am awaiting a refund. I bought it in Mar 2023 and believe it is not kitted out to connect. Thanks for attempting to help.

Should add that I paid HP Support Best2Serve and they tried Easy Install during a 2 hour call with no success either. This was after I had tried for weeks. I was told my support case @ £21.49 wiuld be left open for 30 days but it was not. I paid another £21.49 to query then requested refunds as my case was not solved. No reply has been received. I have just wasted £43.00 on support which I believe HP should offer free of charge to support the sales of its products. I think it is disgusting that they charge distressed consumers when their products fail. Almost unbelievable.
