HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One Printer - N911g

I recently moved and got a new router. When I tried to connect the printer to WIFI, the message, "Invalid wireless password (WPA) entered" displayed on the screen, but the password was correct. I restarted my router and reset my printer, but I still have the issue.

Hi @jwjkpark,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer is displaying the “Invalid wireless password (WPA) entered” message even though you're certain the password is correct, here are several steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Double-Check Password

  • Verify Password: Ensure that you’re entering the correct Wi-Fi password. Remember that passwords are case-sensitive.
  • Re-enter Password: Try entering the password again, making sure there are no extra spaces or typographical errors.

2. Confirm Router Settings

  • Check Wi-Fi Encryption: Make sure your router is set to use WPA or WPA2 encryption, as most modern printers support these. If your router is using WPA3, your printer might not be compatible.
  • SSID Visibility: Ensure that your router's SSID (network name) is visible and not hidden. A hidden SSID can make it harder for devices to connect.

3. Restart Devices

  • Router and Printer: Restart both your router and your printer. Sometimes a fresh start can resolve connectivity issues.

4. Reset Network Settings on Printer

  • Factory Reset: Perform a factory reset on your printer's network settings. This is usually done through the printer’s menu under network settings.
  • Reconnect: After resetting, try connecting to the Wi-Fi network again.

5. Update Printer Firmware

  • Firmware Update: Check for any firmware updates for your printer on the HP website. Sometimes an outdated firmware version can cause connectivity issues.

6. Check Network Settings on Router

  • Network Frequency: Ensure that your router is broadcasting on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies. Many printers work better with the 2.4 GHz band.
  • Network Security Type: Confirm that the router is using a security type supported by your printer (typically WPA or WPA2).

7. Manual Network Setup

  • Manual Entry: Use the printer’s control panel to manually enter your network details (SSID and password). Follow the printer’s specific instructions for manual network setup.

8. Check Printer Compatibility

  • Printer’s Documentation: Refer to your printer’s manual or HP’s support site to ensure it is compatible with your router's Wi-Fi standards.

9. Use HP Smart App (If Available)

  • HP Smart App: If you have the HP Smart app installed on your computer or smartphone, use it to connect the printer to your network. The app can sometimes handle network connections more smoothly.

10. Router Configuration

  • Router Settings: Access your router’s settings page and look for options related to wireless security or encryption. Ensure that no unusual settings are configured that might block new devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
