Hello there, can anyone help me scan some documents? This used to work perfectly but now I get the error message: "The printer could not connect to Web Services. The server might be busy or temporarily unavailable. Try again later". I have tried the following solutions:
1. Trying again later, as advised above;
2. Turning the printer off and unplugging for a few minutes, then re-booting.
3. Re-running the wireless set-up wizard.
4. Printing the wireless network test (solution advised elsewhere in the community).
5. Making sure the time and date are set correctly is a step advised for this elsewhere on the community, but I don't think this can be done on this printer.
Any ideas anybody? I'm just asking it to do one of the four things embossed on the front of the machine that it says it does!! Thanks in advance.

Hi @TimT1969,
I'd like to help!
I understand you are unable to scan to email and receiving a "The printer could not connect to Web Services" error
Try the below suggestions to resolve the error -
Restart the computer, printer, and router
To resolve many connectivity issues, restart the computer, printer, and router.
NOTE:
The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections, and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before you continue.
Turn off the router by pressing the power button or disconnecting the power cord.
Turn off the printer.
Close all running programs on your computer, and then shut down the computer.
Press the power button or reconnect the power cord to the router, and then wait for the Internet activity light to display a normal connected status.
Turn on the printer.
Turn on the computer.
Try to turn on Web Services.
If the issue persists, continue to the next step.
Let's disable webservices and re-enable it
--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address
--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP
---> click on webservices and remove webservices and re-enable it
If the issue persists,
Check the Internet proxy server settings
For networks that use proxy servers, update the Web Services settings in the printer EWS with the proxy information.
Locate the Internet proxy settings.
Windows: Search Windows for Internet, and then click Internet Options in the list of results. On the Internet Properties window, click the Connections tab, select your network, if necessary, and then click Settings.
The network settings menu displays with the proxy settings.
From the EWS, click the Web Services tab, and then click Proxy Settings.
Type the Address and Port values for your proxy server connection, and then click Apply.
Try to turn on Web Services.
Update the printer firmware
HP regularly releases printer updates. Updating the printer firmware might resolve the issue.

Hi there, just an additional detail to the information above: I have just printed out the network configuration page and read that that Microsoft Web Services (WS Discovery and WS Print) are both listed as enabled. I still cannot scan to email though. Although the HP Envy 5640 thinks it can scan to my computer, it cannot and when I drill down through the settings I get this: This server could not prove that it is 192.168.1.16; its security certificate is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may be caused by a misconfiguration or an attacker intercepting your connection. Thanks.

Your suggestion was the solution to my problem as well. REMOVAL of the web services is key at this step! The web-service setup is cumbersome but I can now scan from the 'Apps' option of my printer (OfficeJet Pro 6970)
