My printer Office Jet Pro 8025 no longer prints because it determines I want to fax instead.  I've seen some complicated solution to fix the problem, but I need something simpler.  I turned the printer off and removed the cables but restarting it results in no solution.  What options are available to fix this problem?

Hi @patoia1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how confusing and frustrating it can be when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 suddenly defaults to fax instead of print, especially when you just want a simple solution.

Here’s a quick and easy fix to get your printer back to printing normally:

1. Set the Correct Default Printer

Sometimes Windows sets the Fax option as the default printer.

  • On your computer:
    1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers
    2. Look for HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 series (not Fax).
    3. Right-click it and select Set as Default Printer

2. Remove the Fax Option (Optional)

If you never use a fax, you can remove it to avoid confusion:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners
  • Click on HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 Fax
  • Select Remove Device

3. Check Print Dialog Box

When printing a document:

  • Make sure the selected printer is HP OfficeJet Pro 8025 (not Fax).
  • You can change this in the dropdown menu before clicking Print.

4. Restart the Print Spooler (Windows Only)

This helps reset printer communication:

  • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Print Spooler, right-click, and choose Restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
