The printer is connected to wifi. Test shows connected. Printer says can't connect to server. Can't update status which seems to think out of paper but it isn't. Printer screen says "cannot print. Connect printer to updatre HP Instant ink status."
I click on "connect" - just get the same message as above.
When i run HP smart diagnostics i get a green tick.
I tried disabling and enabling web services via the printer screen menu. No effect.
I've tried unplugging and plugging in again.
It's definitely connected to wifi. My Internet is working.

By the way, i've checked for firmware updates; i've swtiched on and off, i've disabled and enabled web services, i've checked my hp ink subscription is up to date.
Sometimes it says can't connect to server. sometimes "cannot print. Connect printer to updatre HP Instant ink status."
I click on "connect" - just get the same message as above. Round in circles.

Hi @RosieFrance
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That sounds incredibly frustrating, especially since you've already tried so many troubleshooting steps. Since your printer is connected to Wi-Fi but still can't reach HP's servers, let's go through a few additional fixes.
Steps to Resolve the Issue
1. Check Network Settings
- Ensure your printer is connected to a private network (not a guest or public Wi-Fi).
- Restart your router and printer again.
- If possible, try connecting the printer to a different Wi-Fi network (like a mobile hotspot) to see if the issue persists.
2. Manually Set a Static IP Address
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer’s settings.
- Find the IP Address listed on the printout.
- Open a web browser and enter the IP address (e.g., 192.168.xxx.xxx).
- Go to Network Settings and set a Static IP Address to prevent connection drops.
3. Reset Web Services via Embedded Web Server (EWS)
- Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering its IP address in a browser.
- Navigate to Web Services and disable them.
- Restart the printer and re-enable Web Services.
- Try reconnecting to HP Instant Ink.
4. Check HP Instant Ink Account Status
- Log into your HP Instant Ink account and verify if there are any alerts or pending updates.
- If your subscription is active but the printer isn’t syncing, try refreshing the account page multiple times.
5. Update Proxy Settings (If Needed)
- Some networks require proxy settings for web services to work.
- If your printer prompts for a proxy, check your router settings or contact your ISP.
6. Perform a Factory Reset (Last Resort)
- On the printer, go to Settings → Restore Defaults.
- Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi and set up Web Services again.
Let me know if any of these steps work!
