My printer has worked for years . It now says it’s not connected to the internet and it’s locked . I have no clue what a password would be or a username . It was purchased years ago by someone that does not work here anymore

Hi @Bangobowls1

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating this must be, especially since the printer has worked fine for years. Since it's locked and offline, and you don’t know the username or password, let's go through some steps to reset access.

1. Try Default Credentials

  • Some HP printers use default login credentials:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: admin, 123456, or 000000
    • If the printer was set up with a Wi-Fi password, try using that.

2. Reset Network Settings

  • On the printer’s control panel, go to SetupNetwork Settings.
  • Select Restore Network Defaults.
  • Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

3. Perform a Semi-Full Reset (Resets Password)

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the back arrow (↩️) button on the touch panel.
  • While holding it, turn on the printer.
  • Keep holding the button until the reset menu appears.
  • Select Semi-Full Reset and confirm.
  • The printer will restart, and the admin password will be removed.

4. Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

  • On the printer's panel, go to Wireless SettingsWi-Fi Setup Wizard.
  • Select your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

Let me know if any of these steps help! I appreciate your patience while we work through this.
