Common problems for Connectivity Issues
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

HP OfficeJet Pro8024

The printer is connected to the internet via WiFi, however the printer keeps trying to automatically download a software  update, but fails. The message "The printer update could not be downloaded". This also happens if the update is initiated manually, from the touchscreen or from the HP Smart app. I also cannot turn off automatic updates which would fix the issue I'm having as the printer gets stuck multiple times a day on the 'failed download' screen, which means I cannot print anything until I've pressed OK to return it to the Home screen.

Help me download the update or get the printer to stop trying please!

I've also tried this from other user post, but I have no antivirus that could be interfering:
"
- Print a Network Config Page from the printer. Note the printer's IP address.

- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.

- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.

- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250

- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)

- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.

- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS.

- Click 'Apply'. and close the page

Go back to the EWS Page again and try the update"

I have the exact same problem.  I saw one other user "fixed" the problem by switching from 5GHz to 2GHz wifi (I am on 5GHz) so I tried a direct wired connection and that did not help.  RIght now I just have to reset the printer each time it tries to get this new firmware and hand the printer (until you reset it).

I would manually update the firmware from the PC as I have done in the past but it appears that HP has pulled the firmware from it's support download page.
