HP LaserJet MFP M234dwe Printer

My printer is currently disconnected from my router.  The router carrier replaced the fiber wire to the house.  The printer has been connected for over a year.  When the router was restored the printer did not connect.  After attempting to reconnect by unplugging the router, unplugging the printer waiting 60 secs (did not work), then 60 minutes (did not work), then overnight (same), then pressing the printer wi-fi button, attempting to reset to factory (unplug then hold resume button while plugging back in (same result)), I uninstalled the printer from the computer and was going to reinstall it but the driver won't reinstall until the printer...CONNECTS TO THE WI-FI!  The printer displays a solid amber light and the "i" light is on.  I have been spending hours a day over the last week to get this thing to work again.  I have followed ALL the guides for reconnecting to the wi-fi.  The apps (HP Smart, etc.), find the printer initially, but then can't find it to troubleshoot.

Trash day is next Wednesday.

Hi @Bk154,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing an issue with connecting your Printer to the network.

A) Please follow the steps below to perform a power drain.

1) Take out the cartridges

2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

3) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) If the issue still persists, please follow the steps below to connect your printer to the network again.

1) Uninstall the HP smart app by click on this link, Restart the computer or mobile device to clear possible error conditions.

2) Enable Wi-Fi setup mode: When you turn on your printer for the first time, it is temporarily placed in Wi-Fi setup mode so that it can be discovered during setup. Use the printer control panel to restore Wi-Fi setup mode, and then set up the printer again. Go to Restore Wi-Fi setup mode on your HP printer for more information.

3) Refer to this link to use the HP smart app on your phone/tablet/PC to add a printer.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Thank you for your reply.  After completing Step (A), 1-5 (twice), the printer returns to its solid amber light state with the blinking "i".

For your step (B), I had printed the Configuration page earlier when attempting to reconnect following several different guides.  The Firmware "Datecode" installed is 20240314.    At this web address: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-laserjet-mfp-m232e-m237e-printer-series/model/36120178?sku=6... there is listed a Firmware with Version number

  • 20231016
  • 6.3 MB
  • May 8, 2024

I don't know if this is a later version or not.  I downloaded it anyway, but the Firmware installer cannot find my printer.

I will continue with your steps (C) and (D), but I have done similar before and since the printer is still in the solid amber light mode I don't think it will work.

Sorry, no step (D).  But I uninstalled the HP Smart apps.  But the printer is still stuck on solid amber light.

One issue I was trying to deal with is the print spooler continues to show print jobs that have completed weeks ago.  There was an error initially, but then all the jobs finally printed successfully.  I get these notifications on my android phone every time I unplug and re-plug.

I read about how to go about clearing the spooler and that process did not work. See screenshot.

Well, as stated in the initial post, I did perform this factory reset: unplug printer, hold down resume button, plug the printer back in until the "i" light illuminates, then release the resume button. The printer light turns pulsing blue-ish, but in about 15 seconds returns to solid amber and the "i" light blinks until I press it. Then it prints the same page about not being connected.  This page has printed so many times I feed it back in to not waste paper.
