I just bought and installed the HP Deskket 2742e printer and it came with the 6 month free trial of Instant Ink which I also signed up for. I installed HP Smart on my computer and my mobile phone. I am able to print from both but when I press the i button it says that my printer is not connected to the Internet. From what I understand, I need it to be always connected to the internet to work with the Instant Ink program right? If that is the case, I am in trouble because I have tried all three methods on this community board (HP Smart install, WPS router button, through the Admin page with the Network Wizard option) and the only option that worked was when I moved the printer to where my router was sitting and put the router on TOP of the printer, pressed the WPS button and it managed to connected (according to the information paper that printed out). But of course, my office is not configured this way so I put the printer back in where my old printer used to sit (about 4 feet away) and now it doesn't connect to the internet anymore. What is the actual minimal distance does the printer have to be from the router to be constantly connected to the internet please? Or is there a 4th method of connection that I haven't found? Strangely enough, through my ISP provider app I can see the printer has connected to the wifi network with my other devices and on in HP Smart under the Network section it states that the printer is connected and active on the network (SSID 2.4). So is the printer really connected or not at all? Do I have to change my whole office setup so that my router is 2 cm from my new printer? I just want to make sure everything is ok so that the Instant Ink automatic online ordering works with my printer. Thank you.

Yes, you need to connect your printer to the internet to be able to communicate with the Instant Ink program.

I watched the YouTube video link you sent but he explains how to set up the printer to the wifi using the Install new printer option in the HP Smart app. Since I already did all that (and the wifi part didn't work or stay in the settings), I cannot 'delete' my printer to re-install it. Does that mean I have delete and re-install the entire HP Smart app or it won't make a difference because the printer is already associated to my account? In my HP Smart app the only options I have are Install a new printer (and it doesn't find mine because it's already installed) or Finish configuring my printer and when I go to the next page I see my printer but then there are no other options/actions/buttons to continue to do anything. So I am stuck once again. I am using Videotron with very high-speed internet, I have 2 very strong wifi extenders all over the house, my internet is divided into both 5 Ghz and 2.4 Ghz and the printer is working and printing wirelessly from my computer and my mobile phone and says on the information sheet that it is connected to the wireless network (name 2.4), and the the printer IP is (number) and that the Signal strength is excellent, but that This printer is not connected to the internet. (which is so odd because anything wifi in my house is well connected, even from 3 rooms away and right now my printer is literally 4 feet away from the main router in my office). I really don't understand why it's not connecting to the Internet when it is on the network (which is the same as the internet). Please advise. Thank you.
