I can get access via the EWS to many pages, however when I try to do things like setup scanning to a Network Folder, it pops up a message about it taking me to a secure page and then I get the error message "This site can’t provide a secure connection ".
I also cannot get e-webservices to install from either the EWS or the printer itself - both say it cannot with a message like: " Web Services Status : Not Enabled "
I have re-installed the printer software and re-booted the router, but none of these things have done the trick.
Any help appreciated.

Hello,
In order to palliate this incident, please change the behavior of the printer on the wireless network as follows:
- On the front panel of the printer, press the Wireless button to retrieve the IP address of the printer.
- Launch a web page and type this address in the address bar and Enter.
- Click on the Network tab, then under Wireless (802.11), press Advanced.
- Check the option In infrastructure mode adopt 802.11 b/g behavior, and click Apply.
- The printer will disconnect from the network, please reconnect it.
- Try enabling Web Services again.
Don't hesitate to contact us in case of need.

Hi
Thanks for getting back to me.
I got as far as trying to click on to the advanced page. At that point it popped up saying about it was going onto a secure connection, so clicked on the OK. Then I got this display:
This is what I got on screen
This is the same thing whenever it wants me to login / setup scanning from the PC / or try the advanced choice in many other EWS tabs for this same printer. I am just trying to think if it is any of the PC protocols that have changed slightly as this problem did not happen on my former Windows 10 PC. Or could it be a printer protocol we need to look at next?

Thanks for your return,
It is possible that the antivirus and/or firewall is blocking the printer's site.
The non-HP link on the right can help you solve this problem: https://wpdatatables.com/err_ssl_version_or_cipher_mismatch/.

Firstt he not so hot news: I tried the latest links to wpdatatables and by the time I had tried doing what it had suggested, then I was further back than before as nothing came up other than the same message about site being unable to provide a secure connection.
Since then I have found the software from HP entitled "HP Smart" and this has allowed me to get the scanning to a network folder going OK through a wired and wireless connection. 😁 So this solves a problem that I had yesterday. (I have to say I am most grateful as until I made the changes detailed here https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/HP-OfficeJet-Pro-8600-Scan-to-Network-Folder-f... my PC + printer were refusing to talk to each other).
The outstanding item therefore is that when I run "Web services setup" it reports back that "Web Services is not enabled" and no matter how many times I re-try, it does not enable! This is the same scenario when doing it from the printers own control panel display.
Any further ideas about tweaks bearing in mind I will be using HP Smart in the future rather than EWS in Chrome? Thanks.

Hello and thanks for your return,
Try updating the firmware and then re-enabling Web Services of the printer as follows:

- Click on your printer, then under Settings, click on Advanced Settings.
- Click on the Tools tab, then under Printer Updates, click on Firmware Updates.
- Click on the Check Now button to install the latest version of the printer's firmware.
- Try enabling the printer's Web Services again in the HP Smart app.
If issue continues, please assign a fixed IP address to the printer as follows:
- Open the HP Smart App.
- Click on your printer, then under Settings, click on Advanced Settings.
- Click the Network tab, then under Wireless (802.11), click Network Address (IPv4).
- Check the Manual IP option, and then press the button to Suggest a Manual IP Address.
- Once the first 3 fields are filled in, check the Manual DNS Server.
- Enter the address 8.8.8.8 as Manual Preferred DNS Server.
- Enter the address 8.8.4.4 as Manual Alternate DNS Server.
- Click on Apply and OK.
- Try enabling the printer's Web Services again in the HP Smart app.
In case of need, do not hesitate to contact us.

Did try following the bit about updating firmware (which sounded like a very good next step) however there is no option found here to update the printer. I have also tried the static IP and DNS for the printer but that has not made the difference.

Have done the semi-full reset, together with a full turn off and turn on again routine of router, printer and PC. Sadly there is no change.
On the printer's own control panel display, it says that "web services could not be enabled" In the web services setup within the HP Smart app, it reports that Webservices is not enabled. Yet within the apps's settings, Administrator settings, I have gone through the process of ticking / unticking the enabled boxes for web services, webscan and ePrint clicking apply to turn them off and then reversing the routine to re-enable them again. In the advance network settings, the dot is against "Enable WS Discovery and WSD Print".
Since the reset, I have re-setup the Network folder to scan from this MFD to the PC again and that is ok.
What next?
