My touchscreen is not responsive. It powers up and shows information clearly, just not responsive to touch. I restarted it, reset it, used a wall outlet vice a surge protector/power strip, updated the firmware. Still won't respond to touch. Is this screen able to get fixed?

Hi @nschott,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your touchscreen is not responsive despite performing basic troubleshooting steps like restarting, resetting, and updating the firmware, the issue could be related to hardware or software. Here are additional steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the problem:
1. Calibrate the Touchscreen
- Windows Calibration: If you are using Windows, try calibrating the touchscreen:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
- Click on Calibrate.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to recalibrate the touchscreen.
2. Check Touchscreen Settings
- Device Manager: Open Device Manager and expand the Human Interface Devices section.
- Look for HID-compliant touch screen. Right-click on it and select Enable device if it is disabled.
- If it's enabled, right-click and select Update driver.
- Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.
3. Perform a System Scan
- System File Check: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run: sfc /scannow This command checks for and repairs corrupted system files.
4. Run Hardware Diagnostics
- HP Hardware Diagnostics: If you have an HP device, you can run hardware diagnostics:
- Restart your computer and press F2 during startup to enter HP Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the full system test to check for any hardware issues.
5. Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect Screen: Look for any signs of physical damage to the touchscreen, such as cracks or dents, which might affect its responsiveness.
6. Check for Software Conflicts
- Clean Boot: Perform a clean boot to see if any third-party software might be interfering with the touchscreen:
- Type msconfig in the search bar and open the System Configuration tool.
- Under the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable all.
- Under the Startup tab, click Open Task Manager and disable all startup items.
- Restart the computer.
7. Update or Reinstall Touchscreen Drivers
- Reinstall Drivers: Sometimes reinstalling drivers can resolve touchscreen issues:
- In Device Manager, right-click on HID-compliant touch screen and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer, which should automatically reinstall the driver.
8. Reset to Factory Settings
- Factory Reset: If the problem persists and you suspect it might be software-related, consider performing a factory reset. Ensure that you have backed up your important data before doing this.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
