I am trying to connect my printer to Instant Ink but I keep running into issues. The Smart HP app says to press the HP ePrint icon on my printer. When I do that, it says Accept terms of use and enable Web Services? Refer to printed guide for more information. So I click Yes and then it says Printer can automatically download and install an available update. Turn on autoupdate? So I click Yes and it says "Connection Error" The printer could not connect to the server. Check the internet connection or the proxy setting. I know it is connected to the internet, but how do I check the proxy setting?

Hi @Catlovr23
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like your printer is struggling to connect to HP’s Instant Ink servers due to a proxy setting issue. Here’s how you can check and adjust your proxy settings to resolve the connection error:
1. Check Proxy Settings in Windows 10
- Open Settings → Network & Internet → Proxy.
- If a proxy is enabled, try turning it off temporarily and attempt the connection again.
2. Disable Proxy in Internet Explorer (Even if You Don’t Use It)
- Open Internet Explorer (or Microsoft Edge in IE mode).
- Go to Settings → Internet Options → Connections → LAN Settings.
- Uncheck Use a proxy server for your LAN and click OK.
3. Restart Your Printer & Router
- Power off your printer and unplug it for 30 seconds.
- Restart your router to refresh the network connection.
- Turn the printer back on and try enabling Web Services again.
4. Check Firewall & Antivirus Settings
- Some security software may block HP’s servers.
- Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus and try connecting again.
Try these steps and let me know if you need more guidance! Hopefully, this gets your printer enrolled in Instant Ink without further impediments.
