Hi @Ross1960Nov,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 6830 is stuck on the "Restoring factory defaults" message and the screen remains frozen, it may be encountering an issue with the factory reset process. Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve this problem:

**1. Perform a Hard Reset

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Press and hold the power button to turn off the printer. If the printer is unresponsive, proceed to the next step.

Unplug the Printer:

  • Disconnect the printer from the power source by unplugging the power cord from the electrical outlet.

Wait:

  • Leave the printer unplugged for at least 2 minutes. This allows any residual power to dissipate and resets internal components.

Plug the Printer Back In:

  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the electrical outlet.

Turn On the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn on the printer. Check if the screen still shows the “Restoring factory defaults” message.

**2. Attempt the Factory Reset Again

Navigate to Factory Reset:

  • If the printer starts up successfully, go to the printer’s control panel and navigate to the setup menu.

Perform the Factory Reset:

  • Select Setup (the gear icon) > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to confirm the reset.

**3. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Firmware Update:
    • If the printer powers on but doesn’t complete the reset, check if there is a firmware update available that might resolve the issue. You can download updates from the HP Support website.

**4. Perform a Hard Reset of Settings

Power Off:

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.

Unplug and Wait:

  • Unplug the printer and wait for 5 minutes.

Reconnect Power:

  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on while simultaneously pressing and holding the Resume button (often indicated by an icon with a triangle inside a circle) for about 10-15 seconds.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
