Unable to turn off printer using the On button.  Held for longer than 10 seconds and won't turn off.  Display window says "Improper shutdown"

to avoid damage, use On button to shutdown.  Touch Ok.  Touching ok, no response from printer.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand you are getting this error on the printer screen.

Let's try these steps -

  • 1) Turn on the printer, if it is not already on. Take out the cartridges.
  • 2) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
  • 3) Wait for 30 seconds.
  • 4) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not to a surge protector.
  • 5) Insert the cartridges back into the printer.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps.

Hope this helps!

Let me know how that goes.
