HP ENVY 5646 e-All-in-One Printer

My HP Envy 5646 printer has suddenly stopped printing. It is connected to the router and I use MacBook Pro to print documents. It is connected to the same Network wirelessly as the router. It has lost connection to Webservices.

1. On the Printer I get a message "HP Instant Ink Status - Can not print. Connect your printer to update HP Ink Status'. However, on connecting, the next message is 'Updating the Printer - The printer is being updated...'. It is stuck on the same message for over a day. On going into System Set-up and Printer maintenance, it tells me that  'the most current updates have already been installed.'

2. I have disconnected the router, laptop and printer and restarted them after a while but to no avail.

3. HP Smart app shows that the Printer is Ready in a green circle but I am unable to connect to Advanced Settings either through the App or by tying the IP address in a browser, there is an error message 'Network connection error: check Network and try again'. All other devices connected to the Network are working well and HP Smart shows that the Printer is connected to the Network4. I have disabled and re-enabled Webserivces but again without any success.

I received an email from HP Instant Ink that the Printer Connection is lost but despite using various methods suggested, I am unable to reconnect it. Please help.

Hi @chandas,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already tried some troubleshooting steps, but let's see if we can find a solution together.

Since you've already attempted a restart and checked for updates, let's try a few more troubleshooting steps:

  • Check Network Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Pro and that the connection is stable. Sometimes, printers can drop off the network or connect to a different network accidentally.
  • Reset Network Settings: On your HP Envy 5646 printer, navigate to the network settings menu and look for an option to reset network settings. This will clear any saved network configurations and allow you to reconnect to the Wi-Fi network.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: Sometimes, reinstalling the printer drivers on your MacBook Pro can help resolve connectivity issues. Visit the HP website, locate the drivers for your printer model, and reinstall them on your MacBook Pro.
  • Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on your HP Envy 5646 printer. This will restore the printer to its default settings, including network configurations. Keep in mind that this will erase any custom settings you've configured on the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
