HP ENVY 6452e All-in-One Printer

HP smart app fails to connect the printer to my network. Continues to report Offline condition. Tech support tells me my network doesn’t support 2.4 Ghz but other devices connect to EERO just fine. I'm thinking the printer radio is bad. No clue how to verify. The printer works fine through USB. The rub is HP has to monitor the printer for ink so that's not happening. I'm disappointed with support and this printer.

Hi @SkipperLD,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Connecting your HP ENVY 6452e printer to an EERO mesh network can sometimes be tricky, especially if there’s a potential 2.4 GHz compatibility issue. Here are steps to troubleshoot and confirm whether it’s the network or the printer’s Wi-Fi radio causing the problem.

Check EERO Network Settings

  • EERO Band Configuration: EERO routers typically combine 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz into one SSID, but some devices like printers prefer a dedicated 2.4 GHz connection. Try using the EERO app to temporarily turn off the 5 GHz band or “pause” it, forcing devices to connect over 2.4 GHz.
  • Guest Network Option: Enable the EERO Guest Network. This network often runs solely on 2.4 GHz, so connecting the printer to this guest network can help isolate if the problem is with the network or the printer’s radio.

Verify Printer’s Wi-Fi Radio

  • Printer Network Configuration Report: Print a Network Configuration Page (usually found in the printer’s menu under Wi-Fi settings). This report will show signal strength, SSID details, and other diagnostic information. If it shows “Disconnected” or “No Signal,” it could indicate an issue with the Wi-Fi radio.
  • Manual Wi-Fi Setup: Go through the printer’s Wi-Fi setup and enter the network details manually. If it fails to connect repeatedly, it might point to an issue with the printer’s radio.

Alternative Setup

  • Wi-Fi Direct: Use Wi-Fi Direct as a temporary workaround. This feature allows you to print wirelessly from your devices without connecting to a network, although it doesn’t allow for remote monitoring for HP Instant Ink.
  • USB Printing as Backup: Since your printer works via USB, you can continue using it this way while testing the network.

Further HP Smart App Troubleshooting

  • Reinstall HP Smart App: Sometimes, reinstalling the app can resolve connection issues.
  • Alternative Device for Setup: If possible, try setting up the printer on another device (phone, tablet, etc.) to rule out any app compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
