Hi @maya719,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error message you're encountering indicates that there is an issue with connecting your MacBook Pro to the HP OfficeJet 5200 series printer. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.
-
Check Printer and Network Connection:
- Make sure that the HP OfficeJet 5200 printer is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your MacBook Pro.
- Ensure that the printer's Wi-Fi is functioning correctly.
-
Update Printer Firmware:
- Visit the HP official website or use the HP Smart app to check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. If updates are available, install them, as they may include bug fixes that resolve connectivity issues.
-
Restart Printer and MacBook:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off the printer and then turn it back on. Similarly, restart your MacBook.
-
Reset Network Settings on Printer:
- On the printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings and reset the network configuration. After resetting, configure the printer to connect to your Wi-Fi network again.
-
Check Firewall and Security Software:
- Your MacBook's firewall or security software may block the connection to the printer. Check your firewall settings and ensure that it's not blocking communication with the printer.
-
Reinstall Printer Software:
- If you have previously installed the printer software on your MacBook, consider uninstalling it and then reinstalling the latest version from the HP website.
-
Reset Printing System (macOS):
- Go to "System Preferences" on your MacBook.
- Click on "Printers & Scanners."
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the list of printers on the left and select "Reset printing system." This will remove all installed printers.
- After resetting, add the printer again.
-
Manual IP Configuration:
- If you are still having issues, you can try configuring the printer with a static IP address instead of relying on automatic IP assignment. Consult your printer's manual for instructions on setting a static IP address.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the connectivity issue between your MacBook Pro and the HP OfficeJet 5200 series printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
