macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Have set up HP OfficeJet 8015e. My MacBook Air won't recognize the printer giving me this message:

Unable to connect to ‘HP OfficeJet 8010 series [35E052]._ipps._tcp.local.’ due to an error

I've done this several times with the same result - the new printer name does come up un the screen as an option - but can't complete the connection

I have downloaded HP Smart for the computer and that seemed to install correctly - not sure what next steps should be

Hi @Spinoza2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're encountering connectivity issues between your MacBook Air and the HP OfficeJet 8015e printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check Physical Connections:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • Confirm that the MacBook Air is also connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Restart Devices:

  • Turn off both your printer and MacBook Air.
  • Turn them back on after a minute, and try to connect again.

Update Software:

  • Make sure your MacBook Air's operating system is up to date.
  • Check for any available firmware updates for your HP printer on the HP support website.

Reinstall HP Smart:

  • Uninstall the HP Smart software from your MacBook Air.
  • Download the latest version from the official HP website and reinstall it.

Printer Reset:

  • On the printer, find the reset button or option in the settings.
  • Perform a network or wireless settings reset on the printer.
  • After the reset, set up the wireless connection again.

Check Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Sometimes, firewall or antivirus settings can block the communication between the devices. Temporarily disable these settings to see if it resolves the issue.

Manually Add Printer:

  • Open "System Preferences" on your MacBook Air.
  • Go to "Printers & Scanners."
  • Click the '+' button to add a printer.
  • If your printer is not automatically detected, you can try adding it manually by selecting the "IP" tab and entering the printer's IP address.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
