Hello,
i’m trying to set up my printer to be able to print anywhere when I am out of the house but need to print to my home printer. I can do this on my laptop through VPN however I need to be able to do it through my iPhone as well. I went to set up the web services enable, and it keeps telling me that, unable to connect to the Internet. However, I’m able to print remotely on VPN when I’m at my office in town, but I don’t know why it saying it’s not on the Internet when I am actively printing wirelessly through Wi-Fi or VPN from my laptop, I am able to print wirelessly from my iPhone if my iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi as my printer. I’ve gone through the virtual assistant chat and every suggestion they give me is not working. The LaserJet I have is the Laser Jet Pro M283CDW.

Hi @Latytude,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having trouble connecting your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw to HP's Web Services, which are necessary for remote printing capabilities. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.
Check Printer Firmware:
- Make sure your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. You can usually find the latest firmware on HP’s official website. Updating the firmware might resolve connectivity issues.
Network Configuration:
- Ensure that your printer is connected to a stable Wi-Fi network. Sometimes a weak or unstable connection can cause issues with Web Services. If possible, try reconnecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Verify that your router is not blocking the printer’s connection. Some routers have settings that may restrict certain devices from connecting to web services.
HP Smart App Setup:
- Install the HP Smart app on your iPhone if you haven’t already. Open the app, select your printer, and check if you can enable Web Services through the app. The app can sometimes bypass issues you may encounter through the printer’s built-in menu.
Reset Network Settings:
- On your printer, go to the network settings menu and choose to reset the network settings. After resetting, reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network and try enabling Web Services again.
Printer’s Email Address:
- If you have previously set up Web Services and it stopped working, try removing the printer’s email address associated with HP ePrint and setting it up again. Go to the printer’s control panel, find the Web Services or ePrint settings, and follow the prompts to remove and re-enable the service.
Check Printer’s IP Address:
- Confirm that the printer’s IP address is correctly configured and that it’s not conflicting with any other devices on your network. You can usually find the IP address in the network settings on the printer’s control panel.
Firewall and Security Software:
- Check if any firewall or security software on your router or network might be blocking the connection. You might need to adjust the settings to allow communication with HP Web Services.
By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue with connecting your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw to HP Web Services.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
