HP Ink Tank Wireless 415
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, my HP Ink Tank 410 is unable to be factory reset as it keeps asking for a username and a password I did not set up. I am unable to activate WiFi direct either. I have tried using “admin” as both the username and password, and using the combination “admin” and leaving the password blank as well as “admin” and “12345678.” I am unable to do any resetting or adjustments to my printer due to this issue. Kindly advise me on how to gain access to my printer. My warranty is expired so I do not have the opportunity to get help from an agent through chat option either.

@Suki15, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding printer not being able to be rest!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It looks like your HP Ink Tank 410 printer is asking for authentication credentials to access settings, likely due to a previously set password. Since you've tried common default credentials and they didn’t work, here are some possible solutions:

1. Try Default Credentials Again

Some HP printers use these common default logins:

  • Username: admin / Administrator
  • Password: (leave blank) / admin / 12345678 / password

2. Reset the Printer Network Settings

To reset network settings:

  1. Power on the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel button (X) on the printer simultaneously for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light starts blinking.
  3. The printer’s network settings should reset to default, removing any set password.

3. Perform a Full Factory Reset

If network reset doesn't work, try a full factory reset:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button together.
  3. While holding, press the Cancel button (X) and Resume button (if available) three times.
  4. Release all buttons and wait for the printer to restart.

4. Access HP Embedded Web Server (EWS)

If the printer is connected to your network:

  1. Find its IP address by printing a network configuration page (Press and hold the Information button until all lights flash).
  2. Open a browser and enter: http://<printer-IP-address>
  3. Try logging in with admin and blank password.

5. Check Router Admin Panel

If your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, check the router’s admin panel for the printer’s IP address and try logging in via a browser.

Let me know if you need more assistance!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey, thank you for your reply. I want to restate that I have never set up a password or a username for my printer’s EWS. As I mentioned, I have tried the default credentials admin/administrator with both a blank password and 12345678 which were shown to be incorrect.

I have pressed the WiFi button and the cancel button (X) as you suggested and now when I print the network configuration page, the IP address shows as http://0.0.0.0 which does not lead to any websites whatsoever. I tried resetting network by pressing the WiFi button and the cancel (x) button over and over again many times to see if the IP address would change, but it was to no avail.

Furthermore I followed your steps to try a full factory reset by powering off my printer, pressing power button and WiFi button together while pressing the cancel and resume buttons simultaneously 3 times without letting go of the power and WiFi buttons. However it did nothing and still the network configuration page shows the IP address as http://0.0.0.0

My printer is not connected to a network, and the network configuration page shows as the printer is “offline” and the other page states on the top “your hp printer is not connected to a network.”

so it’s safe to say I tried all the solutions you kindly provided without any success. Please help me reset it.

@Suki15, Thank you for your response!

It looks like the printer is stuck in a state where it cannot obtain an IP address, making it difficult to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) or perform a reset through the network.

Alternative Solutions to Reset Your HP Ink Tank 410 Printer

Since the standard resets are not working, try the following steps:

1. Hard Reset via Button Combination

Try this method, which works for many HP printers:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the power cable from the printer and wall socket.
  3. Press and hold the Power button and the Cancel button (X) at the same time.
  4. While holding the buttons, reconnect the power cable and turn the printer back on.
  5. Continue holding the buttons for about 10-15 seconds, then release them.
  6. The printer should reboot and reset itself.

2. Restore Factory Defaults via Secret Menu

Some HP printers have a hidden Support Menu:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and Resume button (or Info button).
  3. While holding them, press the Power button to turn the printer on.
  4. Continue holding for 10-15 seconds until the printer’s lights blink.
  5. Release all buttons and check if the printer resets.

3. Manually Assign an IP Address

Since your printer shows 0.0.0.0, try connecting it directly to your computer via USB:

  1. Download and install the HP Smart App from the HP website.
  2. Connect your printer via USB to your PC or laptop.
  3. Open the HP Smart App and look for Printer Settings.
  4. Go to Advanced Settings > Networking.
  5. Manually assign an IP address (Example: 192.168.1.100).
  6. Save the settings and restart the printer.
  7. Try accessing the EWS again using the new IP.

4. Try Using Wi-Fi Direct

If you cannot connect to a network, try enabling Wi-Fi Direct manually:

  1. Press the Wi-Fi Direct button on the printer.
  2. On your computer or phone, search for a Wi-Fi network named DIRECT-HP-XXXXX.
  3. Connect using the default password: 12345678.
  4. Open a web browser and enter: 192.168.223.1 (the default Wi-Fi Direct IP for HP printers).
  5. Try logging in with admin and a blank password.

Let me know how it goes!
