I have spent most of the day trying to set up my new HP LaserJet. A few times I've come close to getting it set up to print; at those points it says connected to wifi but then, "sorry, something went wrong: Error code EBS00P0004." A dozen times I have reset to factory settings. I am aware of the two-hour setup limit (but I'm not sure why HP thinks this is a security necessity). One issue is that each step in the setup process takes so long that the printer sometimes goes to sleep! The HP Smart app often seems to be thinking and thinking. I have tried using the HP Smart app on my laptop. I've also tried using the HP Smart app on my mobile phone. The information screen printout says my wifi signal is "Excellent." Supplies status is Normal.

Thank you for your response. I tried that approach. HP.com keeps pushing me to HP Smart. It seems possible to install all the drivers individually, but they have different apps, so they end up in different places on my laptop.

It looks like it it is a LaserJet MFP M234sdwe, not an M234sdw, although pressing the printer's Info key generates a Product name saying M234sdw. I'm not sure whether the drivers are any different between the two printers or whether the installation instructions are any different.

Interesting. Yes, HP tells me that the only reason I can't complete the setup and connect the printer is that my ISP set up my router with a single channel for 5.0 Ghz, and the M234sdwe requires 2.4 Ghz to connect to WiFi.

The phone app worked for me as it doesn't require direct Wi-Fi…with the phone near the printer and the phone Bluetooth enabled….speed up the process by a huge margin believe me or not, everything else was faulty

Does that mean that we can only print from a smartphone after that? I was able to print from the smartphone, but the formatting was off. Or can we somehow transfer the setup to a laptop? Thanks

no you just need to install HP smart on the computer and it must detect the printer preconfigured by the phone...give hp smart a little time to detect the printer. If it doesn't detect it by itself, add the printer manually.... it's preconfigured by the phone so everything will be fine...If you're on a mac it may trigger installation of the mac specific drivers for the preferences menu on the mac...
