HP LaserJet Pro 3001dw Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My 3001dw printer is connected by ethernet and works fine except that it isn't recognized as an AirPrint printer, even though this is enabled in the printer settings. I think that this may be related to a new router but am not certain because this only started with a new Linksys Velop 6 mesh router. I thought that if I connected the printer by WiFi this could fix the problem as none of the troubleshooting aids that I could find on HP or elsewhere worked to fix AirPrint. I checked the router settings and saw nothing blocking the printer; rebooting the printer and router made no difference. I can set up the printer to use WiFi using HPsmart, but then the connection is lost promptly afterward. The router is about 3 feet away from the printer. When I remove the ethernet cable the WiFi light on the printer is solidly illuminated but the printer is offline. I've tried this multiple times and failed to get it to work. My Apple devices connect by WiFi via the router and I can print using the WebDirect method but this is really cumbersome. When I do connect to WiFi Linksys shows this connection as being offline rather than active, and very strangely shows a differenct MAC address than is shown in HPsmart (last 2 characters are 6A, not the correct 2F); HPSmart screen shots enclosed (redacted for privacy). Two questions: How can I use AirPrint with the existing ethernet connection and the Linksys router AND why can't I set up a wireless connection that works?HPSmart Printer propertiesHPSmart Printer propertiesLinksys info showing printer but with wrong MACLinksys info showing printer but with wrong MACHPSmart showing AirPrint enabledHPSmart showing AirPrint enabled

I was able to fix this, with the help of HP support. Thank you for your suggestions. The problem was that WiFi was issued by the Linksys router, but that Linksys IP addresses were in a different domain (not sure if I am describing this correctly, but IP addresses from the PC that I was using for printer connection were 192...., but from Linksys they were 10..... Ditto for ethernet connection). The fix was to connect the PC ethernet to the Linksys router rather than the Verizon modem. After this was done then I could connect the printer to the Linksys router, control it from my computer, and also to use AirPrint. Intermediate steps that I undertook were to: cold restart the printer (hold i and cancel buttons simultaneously for 5 secs),  reboot both the modem (1st) and router (2nd), restart the computer and to remove my old printer settings and add the printer back again. I don't know how many of these were needed or whether if I had just connected both ethernet cables to the router this would have worked. I didn't realize that the Linksys router was using a different set of IP addresses from my PC, and since my Apple devices were connected to WiFi via the Linksys router that there was failure to communicate.

I do not see the 3001 or 3008 printers listed as capable of AirPrint but possibly Apple has not updated their list.

Just follow the video below on setting up Wi-Fi direct so any system can print directly to it.

The below is all know about your 3001.  Hope I am not oversharing.

Watch the reset video or perform the steps. After resetting, you generally have 2 hours to complete the setup. Decide if you want to connect the printer to the router or to print directly to the printer and bypass the router.

Many HP and other OEM printers have problems with the router when the router has two bands and both bands have the same name (SSID). Log into the modem and rename one of the bands. Alternately, contact your ISP and have them rename a band.

Or simply use Wi-Fi direct (but read note below about Instant Ink).

If English is not your native language or if you wish to get additional information not covered below, then use the HP and Microsoft support assistants. The latest HPSA supports 36 languages and can be downloaded here. Microsoft's AI assistant is in the latest Windows 10 and 11 releases and there are instructions here on how to enable the AI. Microsoft's AI assistant (Copilot) has a microphone button and supports natural language processing.

Do not call any phone numbers shown in any of the videos or revealed by a Bing or Google search. You may need to reset your printer.

Disconnecting the USB cable may still leave the printer in the wired or Wi-Fi mode. Connecting an ethernet cable may still leave the printer in Wi-Fi mode. The Wi-Fi reset is used to put Wi-Fi printers into setup mode. Some resets are simple and others require a video to understand. Factory resets cannot be revealed in this forum. To do a factory reset of your printer, you must contact HP.

Wi-Fi reset instructions and videos (if any) are shown below. Generally you have 2 hours to connect your printer after performing the Wi-Fi reset. Note that a reset video may show a slightly different model than yours. Do not call any phone numbers revealed in any video or site.

Microsoft's Copilot may have more recent videos.
Watch this video to see how to reset your printer: 3001.

Wi-Fi connection

Ideally, your Wi-Fi printer should connect to the modem or router. If your network has multiple boosters / repeaters, it is possible the printer may connect randomly to any of the units. The router needs to provide the same IP address on every connection. This rarely happens with random connects. An alternate Wi-Fi connection is Wi-Fi direct. Your laptop or smartphone prints directly to the printer and does not go through the router. Note that if you signed up for instant ink or internet printing your printer must also be online through the router. Do not call any phone number revealed in any video or site.

This video shows how to connect to the router: 3001
Wi-Fi Direct can be used to avoid configuring the router. Watch this: 3001
Wi-Fi Direct is explained on page 17 of the User Manual, this Wi-Fi setup avoids configuring the router.
A simple connection to the router can be done by using the WPS pushbutton method. This is explained on page 8 in this User Manual.

Software

HP updates software periodically. Downloads shown below may be old. You should always visit the Software and Download page to look for new releases. You may need to select an operating system (OS) first. If windows 11 is missing then use 10. You can go as far back as Windows 7, 64bit to get missing drivers. After selecting the OS click the blue Open all button to view all downloads.

Full function printer drivers can be downloaded here: 3001
You can find all of the software here. You should select the OS and then look for the phrase "Open All" and click that. 3001

Documents

All documents are available at the below HP site. The user and reference manuals show how to get status reports and analyze error indicators on printer that have no control panel.

All HP manuals are here: 3001

Support Videos - Parts - Disassembly

HP has a YouTube site and there are a number of video in English and other languages. Typically unboxing, clearing paper jams, and cartridge problems. You may also find instructional disassembly videos from other users.

Parts, if any available, can be found here 3001. Use your serial number for more extensive information.
Printer problems could be cleared by one or more of these HP YouTube videos 3001

Printer Reference

One or more printer reference is listed below. Typically your printer may be part of a series and use the same software and manual. The exact spec may be different.

Specifications for your system: 3001 3008

This printer supports both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Please use the 2.4 and configure the router so one of the bands has a different name.

Thanks - I've tried all of the suggested steps already without success. In particular the 2.4 and 5 GHz channels have different names and connecting to the 2.4 GHz does not resolve the issue. I've used the HP Smart to set up the WiFi, and in fact the Linksys router shows it assigned to that channel but disconnected. AirPrint worked fine with this printer before I switched routers, so AirPrint is supported. If I try to connect the printer via Ethernet to the router rather than the Verizon modem there is no connection, despite other ports on the Linksys router working fine. I've rebooted the router and the printer multiple times without success. This seems to be some issue with the Linksys router but I'm not sure. Do you suggest a factory reset of the printer?

There appears to be a pairing code as mentioned here

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/resetting-printer-to-factory-default-hp...

I do not have your 3001 (I have cm1415) and cannot duplicate the pairing problem.   On my cm1415 I can select wifi, etherenet or usb but whatever is selected, the others are disabled.
