HI !
can you help me?
We are setting up our MP printer into a Wi-Fi Enterprise Level Authentication network
but the username that we have for connect the printer is ’Nu\Ger45’
can '\' character be in the username field? or the printer thinks that it's the 'Domain\Username'?
We can use the Printer over Wi-Fi direct, but the printer always asks for a new PIN code
can we use the same PIN code always? I think is not saved!
Thanks for your help!

Hi @AndrezF, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Please follow these steps,
1. Using \ in the Username Field
In enterprise-level authentication (like 802.1X or WPA2-Enterprise), many devices interpret \ as a domain separator (DOMAIN\Username). The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw might assume Nu\Ger45 means:
- Domain: Nu
- Username: Ger45
If your authentication requires the literal username Nu\Ger45, try:
- Using quotes: "Nu\Ger45"
- Using double backslashes: Nu\\Ger45
If this doesn't work, check if your network requires a domain and if you need to enter it explicitly.
2. Wi-Fi Direct PIN Code
The PIN code for Wi-Fi Direct is dynamically generated each time by default, which is why the printer keeps asking for a new one. Unfortunately, this is a security feature to prevent unauthorized access.
However, you can switch to "Manual" mode, which allows the printer to use a set password instead of a PIN:
- Open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) by typing its IP address into a web browser.
- Go to Network → Wi-Fi Direct Settings.
- Look for an option like Wi-Fi Direct Connection Method and change it to Manual.
- Set a Wi-Fi Direct password instead of using PIN authentication.
This should allow you to connect without needing a new PIN each time.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
