On a w10 PC, when we install printer HP envy 7640 wirelessly in wifi , printing doen't work.
We must change the wsd port attibuted to the printer by a TCP/IP port...
Why this?

Welcome to the HP support community.
Are you getting any error messages?
Meanwhile:-
Follow the below steps to fix the issue:-
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix connectivity and printing issues.
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
-
Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
-
If your printer is not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
-
If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
-
If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
-
If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.
-
Try to print.
Assign a manual IP address and that should fix the issue.
Find the printer IP address to assign it manually.
-
Load plain white paper into the input tray.
-
From the printer control panel home screen, swipe left, and then touch Setup.
-
Swipe up, touch Print Reports, and then touch Network Configuration Report.
A Network Configuration Page prints.
Setting a Static IP Address
Once you know your printer’s IP address from the page you printed, entering it is pretty easy. Here’s what you do:
- Run your Web browser.
- In the Web browser’s address bar, type the IP address of your printer and press Enter. Assuming you entered the right address, the HP printer control panel should appear.
- Click the Networking tab.
- Under Connections, click Wireless.
- Under IP Address Configuration, click Manual IP.
- Enter the IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway in the appropriate boxes.
- Click Apply.

Hello,
Thank you for your answer
We have not error messages, we have just à windows notification "erreur d'impression"
We have not tried your solution "introducing an ip manual adress' because now the printer works fine after replacing the wsd port by a TCP/IP port in the printer's property configuration port. Before that we have desinstalled and reinstalled several times the printer Hp envy 7640 on the windows 10PC version 20h2.
We don't undrestand why?
In your forum we found seral others indications to try but we have not applied it because the TCP/IP solution works.
among them one was suggesting replacing the public internet network by a private one, another suggested to validate the services : Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication
With the tcp/IP solution we have a solution that works, but we don't know what is the best one and why? We don't know why it doesn't work with a wsd port at the standard installation of the printer with à wifi connection?
Perhaps can you indicate us which is the best solution?
Thank you for your answers.

Good to know that issue is resolved.
This could be a connectivity issue between the printer and the router.
Try assigning a manual IP addresses in the future if you come across a similar issue.
Feel free to contact us in the future if you need any assistance.
