Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Please follow the below steps:
1: Restart the Printer, Router, and Computer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from power, and wait 30 seconds.
- Restart your router by unplugging it from power for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in.
- Restart your computer or mobile device.
- Turn the printer back on and try connecting again.
2: Check Wi-Fi Network & Printer Compatibility
Ensure the new router is broadcasting a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi signal
- HP Smart Tank 6001 only supports 2.4GHz, not 5GHz.
- Check your router settings and ensure both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks have different names (SSIDs).
Verify that your Wi-Fi network is not using special characters
- Avoid symbols like @, #, !, or spaces in the Wi-Fi name or password.
Ensure the printer is within range
- Keep the printer within 10-15 feet of the router for a stable connection.
3: Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi Using WPS (If Your Router Supports It)
- Press and hold the Wi-Fi button (📶) on the printer for 5 seconds until it starts blinking.
- Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
- Wait until the Wi-Fi light on the printer turns solid (connected).
4: Manually Reconnect the Printer Using HP Smart App
If WPS doesn’t work, manually connect via the HP Smart App:
For Windows/macOS
- Download & open HP Smart from HP’s website.
- Click Add Printer and follow the instructions.
- Select "Set Up a New Printer" and follow the guided Wi-Fi setup.
For Android/iPhone
- Open HP Smart App and tap "Set Up a New Printer".
- Follow on-screen instructions to select the Wi-Fi network and enter the password.

5: Reset Network Settings on the Printer
If the printer is still not connecting, reset the network settings:
- Press & hold the Wi-Fi (📶) and Cancel (⛔) buttons together for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light blinks.
- The printer will restart and reset its Wi-Fi settings.
- Try connecting again via HP Smart App or WPS.
6: Assign a Static IP Address (Advanced Troubleshooting)
If the printer connects but later disconnects:
Print a Network Configuration Page:
- Press and hold the Information (🛈) button until a page prints.
- Look for the Current IP Address.
Access the Printer’s Web Interface:
- Open a web browser and enter the IP Address from the config page (e.g., http://192.168.1.100).
- Go to Network > Wireless and set a Manual (Static) IP Address.
- Click Apply & Restart.
Update Firmware & Router Settings
Check for a Printer Firmware Update
- Go to HP Support > Enter your model > Check for firmware updates.
- Install any available updates via USB or HP Smart App.
Ensure Router Security Settings Are Compatible
- Use WPA2-Personal encryption (not WPA3).
- Disable MAC Address Filtering (or add the printer’s MAC address).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
