Hi @Wboymom,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like there might be an issue with your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer. The "?" symbol on the display screen usually indicates that there is an error or problem with the printer. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot the issue.

  • Check for Error Messages: On the printer's display screen, there may be an error message or code accompanying the "?" symbol. Take note of any specific error message, as it can provide valuable information about what's wrong.
  • Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple power cycle can resolve minor issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check for Paper Jams: Ensure that there are no paper jams or obstructions inside the printer. Open all access doors and remove any jammed paper if found.
  • Check Ink or Toner Levels: If the printer is low on ink or toner, it might not print correctly. Check the ink or toner levels and replace any empty cartridges.
  • Wi-Fi Connection: Even if you're connected to a Wi-Fi network, there might be an issue with the connection. Verify that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and that the signal strength is strong.
  • Restart Your Router: Sometimes, Wi-Fi issues can be resolved by restarting your wireless router. Unplug the router, wait for a minute or two, and then plug it back in.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP OfficeJet 5255 printer. Updating the firmware can often resolve software-related issues.
  • Reset the Printer: As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory defaults. Keep in mind that this will erase any custom settings, so it should be done only if other troubleshooting steps fail. The method to perform a factory reset may vary depending on your printer model, so consult the user manual for specific instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
