I am trying to scan a multi-page document using HP Smart. The Officejet printer does not recognize the automatic document feeder. The support document says to make sure "Web-scan" is enabled. I am unable to enable it as web-scan and other features because they are apparently locked by the Administrator. Since there is no administrator, other than myself, I am puzzled how to resolve this seemingly simple issue. Suggestions?

Hi @velomark,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If features on your HP OfficeJet are locked by "administrator," and you're the only user, it's possible that these settings were locked at some point or due to specific configurations. Here’s how you can resolve this issue.
Check for Admin Password: If you’ve set up an admin password at some point, you’ll need it to unlock these features. Try using any passwords you may have set up.
Reset Printer to Factory Settings: This will reset all settings, including any admin passwords or locks, to their default state. Here’s how:
- On the printer's control panel, go to Setup.
- Select Printer Maintenance or Tools.
- Choose Restore or Reset.
- Confirm the reset and follow any on-screen instructions.
Update Firmware: Make sure your printer’s firmware is up to date. An outdated firmware version might cause unexpected issues.
- Visit the HP support website.
- Download the latest firmware for your printer model.
- Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
Reconfigure Printer Settings:
- After a reset, you might need to reconfigure your printer settings.
- Access the printer’s web interface by entering the IP address of the printer into a web browser.
- Log in with the default admin credentials if prompted, which are often provided in the printer’s manual or on the HP support site.
By following these steps, you should be able to unlock the features and resolve the issue with scanning your multi-page document.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
