I work at a public school and cannot link my new HP Printer to the wifi. Any suggestions on what to? I have a personal Apple laptop. Can I connect with that?

Hi @STAWILL,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To connect your new HP printer to a public WiFi network, here’s what you can try.

  • Check Printer Compatibility: Ensure your printer supports WiFi connectivity and is compatible with your network setup.
  • Use the Printer’s Setup Menu: Most HP printers have a control panel where you can select network settings. Go to the WiFi setup option and follow the prompts to connect to a network. You may need the network name (SSID) and password.
  • Use HP Smart App:
  • Install HP Smart: Download and install the HP Smart app on your Apple laptop if you haven’t already.
  • Setup Printer: Open the app and follow the instructions to add your printer. The app will guide you through connecting your printer to WiFi.
  • Manual Setup:
  • Printer’s Web Interface: Some printers allow configuration through a web browser. You might be able to access this by entering the printer's IP address in your browser.
  • Temporary Hotspot: If the public WiFi network is restricted, you might use your Apple laptop to create a temporary WiFi hotspot. Connect the printer to this hotspot, then configure it for the public network if possible.
  • Network Settings: Ensure the public WiFi network allows printers to connect. Some networks have restrictions that might block new devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
