Hi
Just a question, trying to set up a HP 6132e printer in an office that use their own WiFi.
I assume it's their security on the WiFi as I'm not able to set it up, I tried using my phone as a hotspot which works fine, and tried using WiFi direct which also works fine for printing on my phone.
However, it's for my brother and his iPhone doesn't allow him to use a hotspot for printing, and his pc as I said wouldn't connect via WiFi direct either.
Is there any other ways I might be able to get his printer to connect to the internet?
Or should we just get a cable. Trying to connect it to the internet just for HP smart and monitors ink levels etc.
Thanks all

@bricksmasher, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP 6132e printer!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
1. Verify WiFi Network Requirements
Ensure that the WiFi network your office uses supports the necessary protocols and check if there are any restrictions. Some enterprise networks may require specific configuration settings or have security measures that block new devices.
2. Printer Configuration
- WiFi Network: Ensure your printer is configured to connect to the correct WiFi network. If the network requires credentials, double-check that you are entering them correctly.
- Hotspot Use: Since setting up the printer works with your phone's hotspot, ensure your brother's hotspot settings are configured correctly. Update the printer firmware if necessary for compatibility with different hotspot providers.
3. Use HP Smart App
If your brother's iPhone cannot use WiFi Direct or establish a hotspot, attempt setting up the printer using the HP Smart App.
- Download the HP Smart App from the Apple App Store on his iPhone.
- Use the app to configure the printer and ensure it connects to the desired WiFi network.
4. Network Connectivity Issues
Specific networks may block unknown devices. If you suspect this could be the issue:
- Request your office IT admin to whitelist the printer's MAC address or ensure that the network settings allow new devices.
- Check if there are any firewall or security settings preventing the connection.
5. Create a Temporary JSON Configuration File
If the printer consistently fails to connect to the network:
- Create a JSON configuration file from a successful network connection (e.g., hotspot).
- Load this configuration file onto the printer to guide the connection process.
6. Update Drivers and Software
- Ensure all necessary drivers are installed and up-to-date on your brother’s PC.
- Ensure the printer firmware is up-to-date.
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
