Hi @swedberg71

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the details, and I’m really sorry you’re facing this Wi-Fi connection issue—it’s especially frustrating when everything else is set up and your printer still won’t cooperate.

That flashing blue icon means your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 is actively searching for a wireless network but hasn’t successfully connected.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you reconnect your printer to your new Cox Wi-Fi network:

1. Reset the Printer’s Network Settings

This clears any old network data:

  • On the printer’s control panel, tap Wireless or Setup.
  • Navigate to Restore Network Settings.
  • Confirm the reset and wait for the printer to restart.

2. Reconnect to Wi-Fi Using the Printer’s Touchscreen

  • Tap Wireless Setup Wizard from the Wireless menu.
  • Select your Cox Wi-Fi network from the list.
  • Enter your Wi-Fi password carefully (case-sensitive).
  • Once connected, the blue light should turn solid.

3. Install the Latest Software for macOS Sequoia 15.6.1

HP’s full software package ensures proper communication between your Mac and printer:

4. Add the Printer to Your Mac

  • Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + button to add a new printer.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 from the list.
  • Choose AirPrint or the HP driver if available.

5. Restart Everything

  • Restart your printer, MacBook, and Wi-Fi router.
  • Try printing a test page to confirm the connection.

If the issue persists, let me know what the printer’s display shows after setup—I’ll guide you through the next steps. You're doing everything right, and we’ll get this sorted together.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!

OUTSTANDING step by step, extremely detailed, fingers X’d “fix” for my connection issue!  Very regretfully, I’m back home in Issaquah, WA & won’t be back to attempt the “fix” to the printer in our home in Goodyear,AZ until just before Thanksgiving.  I’ll bookmark, save, copy your response & hope I can still contact you should those nasty computer/printer gremlins continue to plot against me!  Again, MANY THANKS!

HP Recommended

You're very welcome—and thank you for the kind words, @swedberg71

It means a lot to know the steps were clear and helpful.

When you're back in Goodyear and ready to reconnect the printer, feel free to reach out if anything doesn’t go as planned. I’ll be right here to help you chase off those gremlins.

Safe travels until then, and I hope everything works flawlessly when you return.

Cheers!

Hawks_Eye,

Good morning…and I’m back in AZ and tried to use your step by step instructions and couldn’t get past #1.  I can’t find Wireless or Setup on the very little 8715 control panel?  I found wireless settings, but no Restore.  Appears I need more detailed step by step…HELP!

Thanks for getting back to us @swedberg71

I know how frustrating it is to be blocked at the very first step—thank you for trying and for describing exactly where you got stuck. Let’s use the exact touchscreen labels on the OfficeJet Pro 8715 and give you two alternate methods so you can restore network settings and complete setup.

Restore network settings on the printer

Path A (most common on 8715):

  • Tap the Wireless icon on the Home screen.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap Restore Network Settings.
  • Tap Yes to confirm.
  • Wait for the blue wireless light to start blinking (setup mode).

Path B (if “Restore Network Settings” is not visible):

  • Tap Setup (gear icon) on the Home screen.
  • Tap Network Setup.
  • Tap Advanced Settings (if present).
  • Tap Restore Network Settings (or Restore DefaultsNetwork).
  • Confirm and wait for the blinking blue light.

Path C (menu variations):

  • Tap Wireless iconWireless SettingsAdvanced SettingsRestore Network Settings.
  • Confirm and wait for the blinking blue light.

If none of these labels appear, power the printer off for 30 seconds, power it back on, and try Path A again. The blinking blue light confirms the printer is ready for setup.

Connect the printer to Wi‑Fi from the touchscreen

Wireless Setup Wizard:

  • Tap the Wireless iconSettingsWireless Setup Wizard.
  • Select your Cox Wi‑Fi network name (SSID).
  • Enter the password exactly (case‑sensitive).
  • Wait for the blue light to turn solid and a success checkmark on screen.

If your network doesn’t appear:

  • Tap Enter SSID and type the exact network name.
  • Move the printer closer to the router.
  • Ensure the router’s 2.4 GHz band is enabled; the 8715 cannot join 5 GHz only.

WPS push‑button alternative:

  • On the printer: Wireless iconSettingsWi‑Fi Protected Setup (WPS)Push Button.
  • On the router: press the WPS button within 2 minutes.
  • Wait for the printer to show connected and the blue light to turn solid.

Complete setup on the Mac with the HP App

Prepare the Mac:

  • Connect to Wi‑Fi, then enable Bluetooth and Location Services (used for discovery during setup).
  • Place the Mac and printer near the router.

Use the HP App:

  • Install/open the HP App for macOS (Mac App Store or via support.hp.com).
  • Click Add PrinterSet up a new printer.
  • If not discovered over Wi‑Fi, connect a USB cable and select USB setup, then choose Wireless Setup inside the app to send your Wi‑Fi credentials to the printer.
  • Disconnect USB once the blue light is solid.

Add the printer in macOS:

  • Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners → +.
  • Select the OfficeJet Pro 8715 and choose AirPrint (or HP driver if offered).
  • Print a test page.

Router settings to check

Band:

  • Enable 2.4 GHz. If your gateway merges 2.4/5 GHz under one name, create a separate SSID for 2.4 GHz and connect the printer there.

Security:

  • Use WPA2 or WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode. Avoid WPA3‑only, which can block older printers.

Network features:

  • Turn off MAC address filtering (or add the printer’s MAC).
  • Disable AP/client isolation during setup.
  • On mesh systems, connect the printer to the nearest node.

Verify connection and add by IP if needed

Print a network configuration page:

  • Tap Wireless iconSettingsReports (or Print Reports) → Network Configuration.
  • Note the IP address and Connection Status.

Add via IP on the Mac:

  • System Settings → Printers & Scanners → + → IP.
  • Enter the printer’s IP address.
  • Set Protocol: AirPrint, then Add.

If you can share the exact labels you see on your 8715 menus, I’ll tailor the next steps to that screen so you can complete the reset and connection without any guesswork.

Hawks_Eye,

Unfortunately, none of your proposed paths help…I don’t see Settings, Network Setup or Restore?  My wireless light is continuously flashing blue?  I have no idea of how to tell if I’m 2.4 or 5  or what WPS means?  Kind of hoped I’d simply turn on the printer, open the MacBook Pro, they’d like each other, and life would be good and the sun would shine!  As requested, I’m attaching a pair of photos of what I see on the very, very little 8715 screen.

Hawks-Eye,

Again, many thanks for your patience and detailed suggestions.  I did forward photos of the very little screen on the 8715.  Thought about it and figured maybe HP had ops manual online with explanations.  Yes, and also step by step instructions…I had been missing the step to return to the little gear After selecting Wireless.  That got me to the Wizard.  Found the router password and SUCCESS!  My much bett half was able to print from her iPad…all’s right with the world and the sun will come up tomorrow!   THNKS ONCE AGAIN!

You are very welcome @swedberg71

That’s wonderful news—it’s always a relief when the wireless wizard finally connects everything together.

You did a great job following through with the steps and catching that extra gear menu option; those little details often make all the difference. It’s great to hear your household is back to printing smoothly from the iPad, and I appreciate the effort you put into sharing photos and working through the process.

Now that the printer is connected, you’ll notice how quickly it responds to wireless print jobs—whether from a PC or mobile device.

You're awesome, and I'm honored to have been your go-to guide! 😊

Stay fantastic, and have an amazing day ahead!
