Just received printer. Blue light not working and Menu Screen is frozen on HP Instant Ink Cartridges. I can't get the printer to do anything -- any advice? I have unplugged, replugged, turned off and turned on.

Hi @AndHow450
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
t sounds like you're having trouble with your new HP printer, specifically with the Wi-Fi functionality and a frozen menu screen. Since you've already tried restarting and power cycling the printer, let's go through some additional steps to troubleshoot and hopefully get things working.
1. Perform a Hard Reset on the Printer
Sometimes, a hard reset can clear any temporary glitches or issues with the printer’s internal system.
- Steps to perform a hard reset:
- Turn off the printer.Unplug it from the power source.Wait for about 60 seconds to allow the printer to fully power down.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.See if the blue Wi-Fi light starts blinking and if the menu screen unfreezes.
2. Check for Printer’s Wi-Fi Connection
If the blue light isn't blinking, it usually means the printer is not connected to Wi-Fi. This could be due to a setup issue or a frozen menu.
- Steps to troubleshoot Wi-Fi:
- Turn off and on the printer again (as you’ve already done, but just to be sure).Press the Wi-Fi button (if available) or Hold the Wireless button for a few seconds to try resetting the Wi-Fi settings. If the blue light starts blinking, it means the printer is trying to connect to Wi-Fi. Follow the instructions on the screen (if the menu becomes responsive) or try the next steps.
3. Clear Frozen Screen
If the menu is frozen on the Instant Ink screen, it could be an issue with the printer’s firmware or a system error. You can try resetting the printer's settings to see if that helps:
- Steps to reset the printer settings (if you can access the menu):
- Go to Settings (or navigate to the main menu if it becomes responsive).Look for a "Restore Defaults" or "Factory Reset" option.
- Select it to reset the printer's settings to factory defaultsAfter the reset, check if the screen becomes responsive and if the Wi-Fi blue light starts blinking.
4. Use the HP Smart App to Set Up Wi-Fi
If the menu on the printer is still not working and the blue light is not blinking, you can try setting up the Wi-Fi through the HP Smart app. This app allows you to manage the printer and set up Wi-Fi without needing to interact with the printer screen directly.
- Steps to use HP Smart App:
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the Google Play Store (for Android) or the App Store (for iOS).Open the app and add your new printer by following the on-screen instructions.
- During the setup process, the app should guide you through connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network. If the printer successfully connects to the Wi-Fi, the blue light should start blinking.
5. Check for Firmware Updates
Since the menu is frozen, it’s possible there’s a firmware issue. Updating the firmware can resolve issues like this.
- Steps to update firmware:
- Once you can access the menu or use the HP Smart app (if it's responsive), check for firmware updates. On the HP Smart app, check for updates under the printer's settings.
- If you can get to the menu, look for Settings > Printer Update to see if there’s a firmware update available.
I hope this helps.
