I am not tech savvy. But I had my printer working fine and then it suddenly would not connect to WiFi.  Nothing changed that I know of and I keep my iPhone updated. I have tried on and off for many months and cannot get anywhere

Hi @Cfruit

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand you are facing connectivity issue with your printer. Sudden disconnections can happen even when nothing seems to change, and I’ll guide you through a clear, step-by-step recovery.

1. Restart everything

  • Power off your printer, unplug it, and wait 60 seconds.
  • Restart your Wi-Fi router.
  • Restart your iPhone or Windows PC.
  • Power the printer back on and wait until it’s fully idle.

2. Reconnect using the HP App

  • Download or open the HP App on your iPhone from the App Store.
  • Tap Add Printer and follow the prompts.
  • If your printer isn’t found, tap Set Up a New Printer.
  • Choose Wi-Fi Setup, then follow the on-screen steps to connect to your home network.

3. Reset the printer’s network settings

  • On the printer control panel:
    • Press and hold the Wireless button and the Cancel button together for 5 seconds.
    • This resets the wireless settings.
  • Wait for the wireless light to blink, indicating it’s ready for setup.

4. Use Wi-Fi Direct as a temporary workaround

  • On the printer, press the Wi-Fi Direct button.
  • On your iPhone, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and connect to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct name (e.g., HP-Print-xx-SmartTank).
  • You can now print or scan directly without needing your home Wi-Fi.

5. Check router settings

  • Ensure your router is broadcasting on 2.4 GHz, which is required for this printer.
  • Avoid guest networks or restricted access points.
  • If your router has MAC address filtering, make sure the printer is allowed.

6. Update printer firmware

You’ve been patient through this, and I appreciate that. Let’s try these steps one by one and bring your printer back online smoothly. If anything feels unclear, I’ll guide you through it.
