We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about Printer Wi-Fi, Connectivity Issues and Offline Status. Check out this link: HP printer is offline or unavailable.

Printer is connected to WiFi,( new setup), however after indicating that I do not want to subscribe to HP FOR INK, setup process will not go beyond inserting ink. Is this something new, is HP requiring a subscription?

Hi  @Jane295,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I hear your concern about how  it must be when you're trying to set up a new printer and the installation process won't proceed past the ink installation screen. You should be able to complete the printer setup and use genuine HP ink cartridges without enrolling in any subscription service.

  • What is the exact printer model?
  • Are you setting up the printer using the HP app, the printer's control panel, or a web browser?
  • Are the ink cartridges installed and recognized by the printer?

In the meantime, kindly try the following below steps and confirm:

  1. Verify the ink cartridges
Remove and reinstall all ink cartridges.
Ensure any protective tape or packaging material has been completely removed.
Confirm the cartridges click firmly into place.
  2. Check for printer prompts
Review the printer's display for any messages asking you to align cartridges, load paper, or complete cartridge initialization.
  3. Skip and continue
If you are using the HP app, look carefully for any "Skip," "Not Now," or "Continue without Instant Ink" options during setup.
  4. Reconnect the printer
Since the printer is already connected to Wi-Fi, try removing the printer from the HP app and adding it again.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
