After having Windows reinstalled, I had to reconnect my HP printer to the wireless network.  It now works fine for printing commands from my computer so it's connected to the network.  But I can't get it to scan.  When I try the scan setup, it can't find the printer.  I've tried putting in the type of printer and the IP address, but nothing shows up.  Any suggestions?

If you're having trouble with scanning after reinstalling Windows and reconnecting your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdw to the wireless network, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

 

Check the Connection:

  • Verify that your printer is connected to the same wireless network as your computer. You may need to check the printer's display screen to see its network status.
  • Ensure that both your computer and the printer are on the same network.

Update Drivers:

  • Make sure you have the latest drivers for your printer installed on your computer. Visit the HP support website, download the latest drivers for your printer model, and install them.

HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the official HP support website. This tool can automatically diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems.

Firewall/Antivirus Settings:

  • Check your firewall or antivirus settings to ensure they are not blocking communication between your computer and the printer. Temporarily disable them to see if scanning works.

Reconfigure Scan to Computer:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the Scan menu and find the option for "Scan to Computer" or similar. Ensure that this feature is enabled.

Reinstall HP Software:

  • Uninstall the existing HP printer software on your computer and then reinstall it. Make sure to follow the installation instructions carefully, and ensure that you select the option for a wireless connection during the installation process.

Check IP Configuration:

  • On the printer, print a network configuration or status report that shows its IP address. Verify that the IP address matches what you've entered on your computer.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your computer and the printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.

Manual IP Configuration:

  • If the IP address is not automatically detected, try manually assigning a static IP address to the printer. This can be done through the printer's control panel or web interface.

HP Smart App:

  • Consider using the HP Smart app for scanning. It's available for Windows and can help with managing your HP printer functions.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Check the HP support website for firmware updates and follow the instructions to update if necessary.
