I am having the hardest time figuring out why my HP Officejet Pro 8600 will not "wireless connect" to my WiFi. When I check the factory warranty, it says "expired."
Does this mean that HP no longer supports this printer?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Helen2874,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The expiration of the factory warranty does not mean that HP no longer supports your printer. You can still find resources, troubleshooting guides, and software updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 on our HP support website.
For the wireless connectivity issue, here are some steps you can try.
Restart Your Devices:
- Restart your printer, router, and computer. This can often resolve connectivity issues.
Check Wireless Settings:
- Make sure the printer’s wireless function is turned on. You can usually find this in the printer settings menu.
- Confirm that the printer is within range of your WiFi signal.
Reconnect to WiFi:
- On the printer, go to the network settings and select your WiFi network. Enter the WiFi password carefully.
- You can usually do this by navigating to the Wireless settings on the printer's control panel.
Check Network Settings:
- Ensure that your router is set to the correct frequency (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) based on the printer’s capabilities. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is typically compatible with 2.4 GHz networks.
- Check that MAC address filtering is not enabled on your router, as this can block the printer from connecting.
Update Printer Firmware:
- If possible, check for any firmware updates for your printer. This can often resolve compatibility issues.
Disable VPNs and Firewalls:
- If you're using a VPN or firewall on your network, try disabling them temporarily to see if that resolves the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Helen2874,
Thank you for your response,
The error message you're seeing indicates that the printer is having trouble reaching the internet, which could be due to various factors, including network settings or proxy configurations. Here’s a step-by-step guide for more advanced troubleshooting.
Check Proxy Settings
- If your network requires a proxy, ensure that the settings on the printer are correct. However, if you’re not using a proxy, make sure it’s disabled.
- You can check proxy settings via the printer's web interface by typing its IP address into a web browser. Look for "Network" or "Internet" settings.
IP Address Conflict
- Ensure that your printer has a unique IP address on the network. You can check the printer's IP address from the printer's display under Network Settings.
- If there’s an IP conflict, you may want to assign a static IP to the printer:
- Access the router's settings (usually done by typing the router's IP address in a web browser).
- Find the section for DHCP settings and reserve an IP address for your printer.
Network Isolation
- Check if your router has a "Guest Network" or "AP Isolation" enabled, which can prevent devices on the guest network from communicating with each other. Make sure the printer is connected to the main network.
Advanced Network Configuration
- Change DNS Settings:
- You can set your printer to use Google’s public DNS servers:
- Primary DNS: 8.8.8.8
- Secondary DNS: 8.8.4.4
- You can set your printer to use Google’s public DNS servers:
- Wired Connection:
- If possible, temporarily connect your printer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. This can help determine if the issue is related to wireless connectivity.
Router Settings
- Firmware Update:
- Ensure your router firmware is up to date, as outdated firmware can cause connectivity issues.
- Wireless Mode:
- Set the router to a mixed wireless mode (e.g., 802.11b/g/n) if it's currently set to a specific mode, as the printer may have compatibility issues.

Printer Reset
- As a last resort, consider performing a factory reset on the printer:
- Access the printer's control panel.
- Navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Keep in mind this will erase all current settings, so you'll need to set up the wireless connection again afterward.
Testing Network Connectivity
- After making changes, print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's menu to see if it successfully connects to the network and check its current IP address and connection status.
Check for Interference
- Ensure there are no electronic devices nearby (like microwaves or cordless phones) that might be interfering with the WiFi signal.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
