My printer worked fine  but I haven't used it for a while and now I'm being asked for Router pin in order to connect to my laptop wirelessly. My router does not have a pin listed on the label and when I attempt to use the router password it does not work....

What must I do to get my printer to recognize my laptop?

Hi @mikepb,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Confirm Router and Printer Compatibility:

  • Ensure your router supports WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup), which often uses a PIN. If not, use an alternative connection method.

Use the Wi-Fi Password:

  • If WPS PIN is not available, you may need to connect using the Wi-Fi password provided by your ISP or configured by you. This will typically be labeled as "WPA2" or "Network Key" on your router.

WPS Button Setup (If Available):

  • Many routers have a WPS button. If your router supports this, press the WPS button for about 5 seconds to enter pairing mode, then follow the instructions on your printer’s control panel to connect.

Manual Wireless Setup:

  • Go to the printer's control panel and navigate to the Network Setup or Wireless Settings menu.
  • Select Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow the on-screen instructions to enter your network name (SSID) and password.

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure that Wi-Fi is enabled on the printer. You can do this by navigating through the control panel under Setup > Network Setup > Wireless Settings.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Install the HP Smart app on your Windows 11 laptop from the Microsoft Store. This app can guide you through connecting your printer to the network.

Update Router Firmware:

  • Ensure your router firmware is updated to avoid compatibility issues. Check your router manufacturer's website for instructions on updates.

Reboot Devices:

  • Sometimes rebooting your router and printer can reset the network settings, facilitating a smoother connection process.

I hope this helps.

As I mentioned in my original post, the printer worked when I first set it up so router/laptop/printer were all compatible. Now after a few weeks of not using it I can't get it to connect.....

I tried the WPS button, reset the router, restated the printer and the laptop, used the password on the modem and every other password I could think of but that did not help.

To be honest, I am having some difficulty following the instructions you sent, my problem not yours.

I have an extended warranty on my printer however, I have spent many hours over 3 days trying to find a phone number to call so I can speak to someone at HP with no success.

I find it hard to believe that a contact phone number for warranty service is not available. Also, I find it hard to believe that this problem should be so difficult to resolve.

Is it possible for me to contact the "warranty" department to resolve this?

During the time I have owned this printer, I have spent longer trying to fix it then I have actually used it to print.

best regards,
