I have a HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28-M31 printer. I have connected it to the internet in the past but now am trying to connect to Fiber and that doesn't have a WPS button. The blue 'internet' is flashing on the printer. I tried restarting the fiber and the printer to no avail.

Hi @mefreeprinter,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand how frustrating it can be when your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31 printer won’t connect to your new fiber router, especially since it doesn’t have a WPS button. That blinking blue wireless light means the printer is in setup mode, waiting to connect, but it needs a little help.
Option 1: Use HP App (Recommended)
This method works even if your router doesn’t support WPS.
- Download the HP App on your Windows PC or mobile device:
👉 HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site - Open the app and click “+” to add a printer.
- The app should detect your printer (since the blue light is blinking).
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your Wi-Fi network manually by entering your router’s SSID and password.
Option 2: USB Setup via HP Smart
If the printer isn’t detected wirelessly:
- Connect the printer to your PC using a USB cable.
- Open HP Smart and add the printer.
- Go to Settings > Wireless Setup.
- Enter your Wi-Fi credentials to connect the printer to your fiber network.
Important Notes
- Make sure your fiber router is broadcasting a 2.4 GHz network, as the M28-M31 series does not support 5 GHz.
- If your router combines both bands under one name, try separating them temporarily during setup.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
