Hi,
I changed router recently and I cannot connect my printer HP 3639 to this new router.
I have tried all methods shared by HP but nothing works. VPN was disabled when I was told to. 2.4 Ghz network was selected to make sure the 5Ghz is not the issue.
No connection set-up appears on HP Smart even after having reconfigured the printer. The printer only works when connected with a USB cable.
If you know how to solve this, your support will be greatly appreicated.
Thanks in advance

Hi @Iroise,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing issues connecting your HP 3639 printer to your new router. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps that might help you resolve this problem.
Restart Your Devices:
- Start by turning off your printer and your router.
- Wait for about 30 seconds.
- Turn on your router and allow it to fully boot up.
- Turn on your printer.
Check the Wi-Fi Settings:
- Ensure that your new router is broadcasting the 2.4GHz network with the same SSID (network name) and password you used before.
- Confirm that your printer is set to the same 2.4GHz network.
Factory Reset the Printer:
- If the above steps don't work, you can try a factory reset on your HP 3639 printer. The steps to do this are specific to the printer model, so consult the user manual or HP's website for instructions.
Reconfigure the Printer:
- After a factory reset, reconfigure the printer settings, ensuring it connects to your 2.4GHz network.
- Make sure the printer's wireless network settings are correctly entered, including the SSID and password.
HP Smart App:
- If the HP Smart app isn't detecting the printer, try uninstalling and reinstalling the app on your mobile device or computer.
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup):
- Some routers and printers support WPS. If yours does, you can try using WPS to connect the printer. Follow the instructions in your router's manual for WPS setup.
Manual Network Setup:
- Access your printer's control panel or web interface and manually enter the Wi-Fi network settings (SSID and password) for your 2.4GHz network.
Firewall and Security Software:
- Ensure that there are no firewall or security software settings on your router or devices that are blocking the printer's connection.
Firmware Update:
- Check if there are firmware updates available for your HP printer. Sometimes, updating the printer's firmware can resolve compatibility issues with newer routers.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden4,
apologies for my late reply, I am in a region that has been strongly hit by the storm Ciaran. Currently there is no electricity and no internet. I manage connections with the phone newtwork.
I would like to thank you for your help, by combining your recommendations and HP Easy Start for the printer I managed to connect the printer.
Thanks again.
Wish you a great day
