@kleenso, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Laser MFP 136a printer is not being detected by your desktop PC, here are some steps to help you get it working again:
Check USB Connection
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the PC.
- Try a different USB port on your PC.
- Avoid using USB hubs or extension cables.
Power Cycle Devices
- Turn off the printer and PC.
- Unplug the printer from power for 30 seconds.
- Plug it back in and power on both devices.
Install or Reinstall Drivers
- Download the latest full-feature driver for your printer from the official HP site: Official HP® Support
- Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.
- If prompted, connect the printer via USB when the installer asks.
Check Device Manager (Windows)
- Press Windows + X → Select Device Manager.
- Look under Printers or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- If you see an unknown device or yellow warning icon, right-click and uninstall it, then reconnect the printer.
Windows Update
- Make sure your Windows OS is up to date.
- Especially if you're using Windows 11, update to the latest build as older versions may have USB detection issues.
