Hi @raymat33a,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand that reconnecting your HP MFP M28 printer to a new Wi-Fi network can be challenging, especially when you don’t have easy access to the Wi-Fi password or information on how to set it up. Here's a detailed guide to help you reconnect your HP M28 printer to your Wi-Fi network after a password change:
1. Gather Wi-Fi Information
- Find Your Wi-Fi Password: You’ll need your new Wi-Fi password (WPA2). This password is usually found on the router or can be obtained from your internet service provider. If it’s not available physically, you can usually view it through your router’s settings page. Access this by entering the router's IP address into a web browser and logging in with your router credentials.
2. Reset Network Settings on the Printer
Turn On the Printer:
- Ensure the HP MFP M28 is powered on.
Access Network Settings:
- On the printer's control panel, look for the wireless or network settings. This is often accessed through a menu or settings button.
Restore Network Defaults:
- Find the option to restore network settings or reset network defaults. This will clear the previous network settings and allow you to start fresh.
3. Connect the Printer to the New Wi-Fi Network
Using the HP Smart App:
Open the HP Smart App:
- Download and install the HP Smart app from the HP website or your device’s app store.
Add a New Printer:
- Open the app and select the option to add a new printer. The app will search for available printers.
Select Your Printer:
- Choose your HP MFP M28 from the list of available printers.
Follow Setup Instructions:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect your printer to the new Wi-Fi network. You will be prompted to enter the new Wi-Fi password (WPA2).
Using the Printer’s Control Panel:
Open Wireless Setup Menu:
- Navigate to the wireless setup or network settings menu on the printer’s control panel.
Select Wireless Setup Wizard:
- Choose the Wireless Setup Wizard option. This will allow the printer to search for available networks.
Select Your Network:
- Find and select your new Wi-Fi network from the list.
Enter the New Password:
- Enter your new Wi-Fi password (WPA2) when prompted. Make sure it is entered correctly, as passwords are case-sensitive.
Confirm Connection:
- Follow the prompts to complete the connection process. The printer should connect to the new network.
4. Verify Printer Connection
Print a Network Configuration Page:
- If your printer has an option to print a network configuration page, do so to verify that it is connected to the correct network.
Check Printer Status:
- Ensure that the printer is showing as connected and online. You can check this through the HP Smart app or your computer’s printer settings.
5. Reinstall Printer Drivers (if necessary)
Download and Install Drivers:
- Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your HP MFP M28.
Run the Installation:
- Follow the installation process and select the option to set up the printer via wireless.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
