Hi @BobPrinterBlog,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your wifi setup issues HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus E-All-In-One Printer - N911g changed wifi router. Now printer won't connect to the new wifi. "No filtering" = FAIL. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • How far is the printer located from the WiFi router?
  • Do you have a dual-band router?
  • If you have a dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Thanks!  The dual router was the problem.  I got sidetracked by the printer reporting a “no filtering fail”…and the printer’s error report said to “enter the MAC address in the router”.  It took me 2 hours on the phone with Comcast to figure out the 2.4ghz vs 5 ghz as the issue….they made a change on their end to “automatically select the right freq for the device” and that worked BUT oNLY FOR THE PRINTER.  Then came the smoke detectors and cameras.  3 more hours with google.  In the end i had to call back Comcast and get them to—as you recommended—name each router freq a unique name.  Took me all day.  It’s amazing to me that it’s (1) this hard and (2) that Comcast didbt mention it when they gave me the router snd (3) that Comcast tech support didn’t really seem to know, until i got to tier 2 support.

While you respond to that, Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle
